So on Tuesday my mw is gonna chat to me about induction cos of my SPD.
OH and I were talking last night and we have decided to request an early induction at 38 weeks or a c section if after cos I know I won't manage labour without being able to open my legs? Do u think it is a sensible decision or I am bein selfish!

Being a sufferer of mild spd i definately would consider it if it got any worse, However if the midwives know of your spd then they should get you to try labour differently than laid on bed with legs akimbo... On all fours is good for SPD suffers . Depends on how bad it is really and only you can know that xx

Yeah I think that at 38 weeks I may manage but any longer I no I wont te thought of moving makes me wanna cry now :-(

can't see the difference doing it at 38 weeks and 40 weeks really except induction would be more likely to work at 40.

oops just read ur last post my mistake. I have a friend being offered elective c section at 37 weeks due to SPD, but she had a section before. Still very early though so they might do it for you too.

Yeah I am happy Togo to 40 but don't think I would manage labour :-/ I don't wanna end up with emergency c sec

Its better to have an elective c section or induction than an emergency one, if you feel its best then no i don't think its selfish! x

Would rather not have a c sec so hoping induction will be the plan

I would put all of this to the Mw. Your rationale behind it all and that you are feeling worried of what's best. She'll understand x

^^^ WSS - explain exaclty what your concerns are, and why you think you'd need a c-section if it was later, your midwife should be able to advise what would be better.

xxx

Ultimately they want what's best for you and the baby so they aren't going to risk putting you in a position where you are totally hindered by your spd (well if they are using common sense anyway) :oooo:

What's been said above but I think its important to remember a c section is major abdominal surgery and the recovery from it combined with your spd recovery could be worse than a natural labour. But as others have said, talk to your mw as sure she had dealt with it all before and if you have an epidural you won't be in any pain waist down for labour anyhow :o)

I think the induction at 38 weeks would be your best bet to ask for. Youll be in the hospital so they might be able to give you some good pain reflief ie epidural, quite early on and as theres no rush if you feel your body needs a break or anything then you can have it but still be able to get some better pain relief.

I would say though, that a c section might be worse for you. I never suffered spd so I might be totally wrong, but it doesn't go away after your LO arrives, it takes a few weeks and if you add the spd pain to the pain of a c section I just think its going to be a massive tole on you. If you make your feelings known and make sure the midwives are aware of your problem and that youd like some serious pain relief then a natural delivery would be so much better for you.

Thanks mel. I do want to avoid a c section so I hope mw agrees to the induction

Id say when your in there ask for pethedine. I didn't like it as it made me all funny between contraction but they will probably offer it to you before contractions as your in pain. The woman next to me on the ward had it due to pain but no contractions or anything. Worth asking :)

I think as the others have said that you should let your mw know how your feeling and I don't think its selfish at all x

Defo reckon the MW could shed some light on early induction vs. Elected c-section at 38 weeks. Hun you r not being selfish at all! your pain and worry r most genuine. Baby will be just fine being delivered at 38 weeks xxx good luck xx

id go with an open mind as to what they can suggest x but with the amount of pain your in i think they will do what you want xx

if your not happy ask for a 2nd opinion xxx
