Have been told by the midwife that I need to take Iron tablets 3 times a day 200mg. Anyone else in the same situation? Really surpised as my diet is really good. Luckily this is the only problem i have been told about regarding my 28 week blood tests.

Should I be worried for LO at all!!! :?
 
Your LO will be fine :hug:
I'd recommend drinking fresh orange when eating iron rich foods as that helps your body absorb the iron, the tablets will take away any side effects of low iron, which include tiredness :hug: Just make sure your bloods are checked again for iron levels when you next see MW or GP as it can pass, low iron now doesn't mean it will stay until baby's born and there can be some odd effects from iron tablets, including black poo and constipation :hug:
 
Yup, ditto Redshoes :) Drink OJ with the tablets to help absorb it :)
 
I'm taking iron tablets too. My iron wasn't very low but the MW wanted to make sure that I would have enough to cope with blood loss after labour. She also encouraged me to eat more greens and said that dark chocolate is also good for iron mmmmm. I've been doing that for a few weeks now so am hoping that my next blood test will show improvement.

Thanks for the OJ tip Redshoes / Sherlock as reading the insert sheet is a bit confusing...you need to have them after food but a lot of foods actually inhibit absorption!!
 
yes i have been on 3 tablets a day since ten weeks! luckily i havent had the constipation, just black poo! kinda got used to it now!
 
I'm on iron tablets and apparantly no need to worry, as red said you might find your poop goes really black and this is a normal side effect from the iron tablets. Make sure the midwifes check your bloods again in a few weeks. Mine was first detected at about 33 weeks I think and was 10.6 so was just borderline low, had them checked again at 35 weeks and had gone up but only to 10.8 so still popping black poo tablets. I had a fair bit of dizzyness and tiredness before the pills took effect, I still get tired really quickly but doesnt help that i'm not sleeping well at night.

Im on iron too but just once a day, id defently say add the orange juice, but as you can see alot of us are on it so i think youll be just fine :hug:
 
I'm also on them. Only been on them since last thursday but have started to feel the benefits from taking them already. I've not had any dizzy spells since and I haven't been feeling as tired. But I do have black poo!! (sorry if TMI!)
