Induction for "big" baby

My lg was 9lb 6.5oz at 40+3, I'm 4ft 11 and I had a normal water birth with her, no problems at all. I had my son last month and was dreading my birth. I was told he would be over 10lb, he was 9b 0.5oz, smaller than my daughter and again no problems. He was 5 days late.

Even if I was offered to be induced because of size I would of never took it.

11lbs7oz?? Oh my goodness! Wow, that is a frightening weight- well done her!! :)

She had to have a c-section in the end as she was pushing for over an hour but whenever she moaned about feeling heavy we never thought it would be cos baby was that big haha xx

Can't say I'm surprised, but massive props for managing to carry a baby that size! :)

Hey Hun, my first was 8lbs2 and just over 38 weeks and I had regular scans with my second and each time I was told if I got to my due date she'd be over 9lbs. So I was expecting a big one. However she arrived at 37+5 and was only 6lbs 9oz. So even if I added on the 0.5lbs a week they're meant to put on post 37 weeks she'd have been around 8lbs on her due date. So they can also get it quite wrong.xx

My consultants have offered induction at 38 weeks due to baby being big. My daughter was 8lb4 at 38 weeks on the 90th centile and this baby is looking the same way. But I dont want induction. If I get to due date I may reconsider but I don't think a (potentially) 9lb baby on due date is that big? I dont have gd or high bmi or anything else so I think my body just cooks bigger babies?

Am I being careless? I didn't think they would induce someone because of this reason especially so early? The reason I want to avoid induction is the increased chance of an instrumental delivery which could have been a.contributing factor to my major pph last time.

Any advice would be great thanks.

Its definitely worth asking how "favourable" you are for induction. I guess its all about working with your body etc, but I started having sweeps from 37 weeks last time, as they were jumpy about placenta due to miscarriages and clotting issues for me, but I was getting loads of early signs and was already 2cm dilated at 37weeks, so my body responded nicely to "gentle" pushing.

I've been offered induction at 38 for big baby this time, and I guess because of the same worries as before, and I'm reasonably happy to go ahead with this, as I've been getting false starts for a couple of weeks and had other signs that my body is ready now.

I suspect where it goes horribly wrong is when your body is being forced to do something its really not ready for.

An elective section is probably a better option if they can give you a compelling safety reason to want the baby out early?

Thanks for all opinions everyone! Im pretty set on not having induction for this reason. Ofc if baby was distressed etc then its a no brainer but I just don't see the need for this reason. Thanks all!

When I had my daughter they expected a whopper of a baby 10+ so was advised to have elective c section as I had struggled to give birth to my son vaginally (he was 8 pound 7).

Day of c section arrived and my daughter was delivered weighing 7 pound 8oz! Not sure how they got it so wrong but the C section went well and I recovered much quicker than with my son so will be requesting same again if I manage to get pregnant again.

I hope all goes well Hun and baby shows when ready, keep us all updated :) xxx
