How much input does your mum have on the name you chose?

Thanks everyone!

We have decided on a name now and don't care if people like it or not! We know our parents aren't keen but I'm hoping it grows on them!

He's going to be called Joel Daniel :) xx

It will definitely grow on them! My mum didn't say she didn't like the name we chose for our LO (Eleanor) but kept talking about all the girls names she did like instead. Since our LO was born she has said quite a few times how pretty the name is!!! Once it's associated with a little person, they will absolutely love the name no matter what they thought before, I'm sure!

Absolutely jack, infact I'm more likely to choose a name if she doesn't like it (provided we do obviously!)
I told her I liked the name Renesme & she started on a tangent about how I wasn't calling her grandchild Renesme  she was soon put in her place. She also made a face at Jensen "because it's a cartoon character" (she's thinking of The Jetsons) & I thought she was going to have a fit when we mentioned Kal-El

I now refuse to tell her what name we've chosen as I'm so sick of her giving her opinion (by opinion I mean her going crazy because we haven't chosen a name she approves of!) she's actually said if we chose a name she doesn't like she'll just call him something else

I did with my first I reli wanted Dylan but my mum hated it so I decided on Rylee which she used was a lot better but this time I don't even no why I told her she had edits a cats name and she hates it and keeps saying that he will get called Casper instedof Jasper and get the mick taken out of him but me and oh love it and so doe the rest of our families the online people that don't like it is my mum and step dad xxx

none at all, only two people get a say on our baby's name - myself and my partner, has nothing to do with anybody else

Neither of our parents will have their say. We basically have our names picked.

Last time I was pregnant, my boyfriends mother said she didn't like the name we picked. She was told tough, it wasn't her baby. She likes to have control anyway. Sadly our first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage.

Hoping this pregnancy goes well! :D

absolutely no input at all.

We've got our names picked out already, Girl: Clara Beth and Boy: Donal Abraham.

Our first little one, nobody knew her name until she was born. We picked a name we loved and added on Hubby's grans name for second name. Perfect. Once baby is born and named, nothing can be done or said. Nobody will want to offend you. The name you have chosen is very strong :) Lovely!

my mum is lovely but has an opinion on every name i suggest, I wont let her put me off if I fall in love with one though, she will have to get used to it :). my sister recently had a boy who she has called alfie and my mum was very vocal about the fact she didnt like it as apparently is it a name for a dog?! my sister was really upset so im hoping she lays off abit on my choice when i eventually make one seen as she saw how much she bothered my sister xxx

My Nan's a bit like that, she's still not happy that we called our Border Collie Freya because "it's too pretty for a dog" & she actually laughed at me when I said we were using Logan Ki as middle names in memory of our late Husky Cross Loki. I love my Nan but she can be erm untactful when it comes to names

My mum has a massive influence on the names I have chosen. Also my oh obviously! I value her opinion, I want my children to have names that people like. Luckily, I like traditional names anyway so most people like them x

She has no influence whatsoever on the names I choose. If she doesn't like them then tough..... its our baby not hers she had her time to choose names x

I think the problem is I do really value her opinion and I really would love her to like the name. It's nothing too unusual it's just not the name she suggested!

I think it's growing on her though :)

Mummy to Ella 18/11/11
Baby Boy due 17th Dec 2013

It's very important to me that my mum doesn't hate the name we chose. All the names we've mentioned so far (more or less) she loves - Emelia, Cecelia and Louisa for girls and luke and Alexander for boys.

The only name she really didn't like was when k suggested we were thinkif if ivy for a girls middle name but we've since gone off it
She likes faith for a middle name but it's between faith and noelle now and I'm not sure she will like noelle.

I'd give bubs a name she didn't love but wouldn't give one she hated... But we generally have the same choice in names lol
