How long have you been breastfeeding for?

I breastfed DS until just before his birthday but we were down to one feed a day by the end. I do miss breastfeeding but I'm enjoying the break at the mo until LO comes along.

My goal was 6 months without formula which I managed :cheer: . I never thought I'd get to a year so I was pretty proud of myself.

I feel like a failure! :( Jacob has been on formula since day 2 of his life.

Don't be silly, you are NOT A FAILURE.

I know :) It's amaising how many of you have managed to breastfeed your babies though, it's brilliant!

I did try to BF Jacob but we both ended up so stressed because he couldn't latch on and I dreaded trying to feed him, it was an awful experience for me :(

To be honest I didn't want to BF but on the other hand I wanted to as it was best for Jacob if that makes sense :?

After a long hard discussion with the brilliant MW's at the hospital I decided to put him on formula and as soon as I started giving him that first bottle a huge weight was lifted from my shoulders.

Sorry I know this thread is about BF but I feel better for getting that off my chest! Hope you don't mind

Hey,

Not at all - its great to hear your experiences - it sounds like you made the right decision for you and your family.

This thread is somewhere for us all to shout out our experiences as breastfeeding can be hard work and so tying - but it is NOT meant to make anyone who is not breastfeeding feel bad.

I think its important we're allowed to say how proud we are of ourselves and of the other breastfeeders on the forum and to shout about our experiences and achievements, without feeling like we may offend. I think this thread is really important.

Breastfed exlusively tll about four months and then starting introducing foods - continued to bf tho until ten and a half months - when I had to give up for a dr appt about a breast reduction only to be told i wouldnt get it! i kinda wish i had continued to a year ...oh well not meant to be. I am still proud i got that far - congrats to all of ya for getting as far as you have!

I'm still breadtfeeding Finn and he's nearly 9 months. I intend to go to a year so that I don't have to give him any forumula and he can go straight onto cows milk. I've also just trained as a breastfeeding peer mentor with sure start to supposr mums who are new to breastfeeding.

no... of course I'm not still breastfeeding... my mum lives too far away but lil miss is going on 6 months now... :rotfl: :rotfl:

11 Months :D

I'm very proud of myself, I didn't think I'd make it to 6 weeks at the start 8)

Can I update my post in this thread? 19 weeks tomorrow!!!!! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

I also didnt think I would manage it very long, now I love it! :D

5 months 3 weeks and 1 day! I thought I'd only ever manage a maximum of 3 months of BF, but there was no stopping us once we got into the swing of it. Things went a bit awry when he cut four teeth at 4 months and decided to clamp down on my nipple during a middle of the night feed, at which I almost fell out of the bed and ran away with pain vowing NEVER AGAIN. But now I just say nooo slowly and firmly and unclamp him when he gets silly. Apart from that we both love it and I don't really know when it will end! :D

I've been bf:ing exclusively since birth and haven't even thought about stopping yet or introducing solids....

I managed to breastfeed exclusively for 11 weeks. Not bad considering I didn't think I'd make it a week at first :D

Logans' weight gain slowed down a lot from 6 weeks, and between weeks 9 and 11 he was losing weight. From 6 weeks he had dropped from the 50th centile to the 2nd!

Bottle feeding is definately much more work and more tiring than breastfeeding, especially at 4am!

5 months today - wooohooo    though am a bit :( as this will be my last month of exclusively breastfeeding

12 weeks tomorrow.

I'm hoping hoping hoping to get to 6 months exclusively.

Thought I'd update too.

Stilll managing to give Asher breastmilk, either from bottle or from me at least once a week (expressing every day to keep some level of supply).

Wanted to get to a year, but I don't think I'll manage that now. Maybe 11months at a push. But as soon as you start cutting down, your supply really plummets.
