How long did it take you to plan your wedding?

My sister announced her engagement in Oct in 2000 and was married Jan 2001 she had a big catholic wedding was a lovely day.
When i was engaged we gave our selves 2 years to plan but that was due to other commitments we had.
Our church was only charging £450 for the church and £50 for the bells. I think the registry office here is a lot cheaper

good thread. we got engaged just after I had LO. good to see prices and things cos I havent a clue. not planning on getting married for a few years yet. wouldnt no where to start. have anyone used any good websites/magazines to help them plan ?!?! x

With regards to a photographer, if you ask around with family and friends Im sure you'll find an amature photographer willing to help. Just have where you want the photos and who you want photos with i.e. bridemaids and you, groom and grooms men ect, and you'll probably get someone who'll do it for free or maybe £100. I did weddings for family friends for £50 :) Then if you want really pretty ones done, get them done on a different date with a normal portrait photographer. That way you're not stressed on the day or anything and itll cost ALOT less.

You could easily do it for £4000. Just aim to do it all for £3000 and then you'll probably end up at £4000 lol.

I agree with Melio, we payed about 3k for our photographer but OH brother took photos too as he is interested in photography and they were more personal, mind you the photographer did line up a lot of the photos so suppose he just snapped them!! xxx

You have plenty of time to plan the wedding :) I got engaged in May, it took us 2 months to settle on a wedding venue and once that was sorted, 3 months to organise everything else! It was a bit frenetic at times but all worked out in the end.

We came in beneath our budget thanks to lots of haggling on everything!!

Also, not getting married on a Saturday worked out way cheaper & gave us more options when it came to booking everything! :)

Best of luck!! :clover:

I organised our wedding in 28 days. It cost £5k Inc having a proper wedding dress made (wedding dress shops were awful about it so found a dressmaker).

It was up in Gretna with close family & friends. It was a really good day and it all went to plan.

Was so proud I pulled it off.

He proposed December 2008 and we got married March 2010. But TBH we could have planned our wedding in about 3 months, the only reason we took so long was so we could save up for our honeymoon which cost us about 12k  The actual wedding we did for about 3.5k, with the photographer and dress being the most expensive at 1k each.

We got engaged in May 2008 and got married in August 2009, but that was loads and loads of time, so wasn't stressful at all. We spent about £8k including the honeymoon to the Maldives. It was a fab day X

All I can think when reading this thread is.....the amount of money you all spend on a wedding is like a deposit on a house!!!! lol

We got engaged in December 2006 and married in April 2008.

I'd never change anything about my wedding as it was perfect but it did cost £20k in total (including a £4500 honeymoon in the Maldives) - at the time it didn't seem a lot of money as I was working in banking and everyone had fancy weddings but obviously since retraining as a teacher I don't have that sort of cash anymore and would never spend that if I got married now.

It is worth mentioning that we had 150 guests and got married in London which obviously pushed up the price.

yay ! i have no idea when to get married, and no idea where to start and how to start planning !

It took me only about 5 months to plan everything, but I had a little help from a wedding planner, otherwise who knows what would have happened to my sanity!

Congrats on your wedding. Enjoy the time you spend planning as the day itself is over so quickly. but if i can offer any advice its dont get caught up in the small things, enjoy it for what it is, its yours and your future hubbys day so do what you want and above all...relax and have fun :)

I had a really short time to organise mine...88 days! My grandmother was terminally ill and really wanted her to be at the day, sadly she passed away before the wedding, but she had been involved in preparations and we had the hottest day of the year, which was lucky since it was early April (2010)

I got my dress 2 weeks before the wedding! The cake the day before! But I was fortunate that i had the time and money to arrange evreything last minute. Our honeymoon was a month after the wedding, in total we spent just over 15k (5k more than we budgeted for) but that included our honeymoon too which was 2 weeks all inclusive at a 5 star in the Caribbean and we flew first class too which was amazing (but expensive)

we got engaged september 2008, decided at beginning of march 2009 to get married in sept 2009!!!!!!!!!!! SO it took 5 months.........twas good!!!!!! dont wanna say a price cos we dont know exactly and can only estimate on what we know for deffo some things cost and work from there ....... xx

Well we was gonna book in the other day but it came out pretty pricey so I looked around for a different registry office and we can get married in Sidcup for £400 less than Dartford!!

im embarrassed :/ planned wedding in january due to get married in october but brought it forward to may (long story) so 4-5 months but really a week of actual planning tbh!! then its just wee details and we spent £20k +!!!

we had the whole hogg... think 300 at wedding then venue was like £10,000 we got a boat to reception went totally overboard!! (this was before the recession hit my dads business - my poor siblings will be getting cheapo days pmsl!!) xx

ALTHO i had a fab day, it really is about the ceremony and the cloe family and friends, if i had a do over id have a 5k wedding and deposit for a house!! xx
