No but you don't get one everywhere- it depends where you live. In Bristol you don't get one, I think Somerset is the same and some other places in the South West. When I asked about it I was told that it was due to funding and the fact that most people know their dates anyway. No mention of the worry about abnormalities. It's hard as all my pregnant friends here don't realise that in other places you get a free 12 week scan. Those that can afford it go to Bupa but other than that you just have to wait until you're 20 weeks. That said we're lucky in Bristol as there's a good EPU and if you do have bleeding then it's pretty quick and easy to get a scan then as that has happened to a few friends.
