I would also put in an official complaint... all women in the UK are entitled to a scan at 12weeks to check for abnormalities... Leaving you till 16 weeks is too late...

Not in Bristol you don't. We don't get scanned until we're 20 weeks. I'm trying not to think about it too much as it's pretty scary really. I think it's a bit of a postcode lottery situation and if you get a scan at 12 weeks then you're lucky.

Hope you get a scan manda224- Floppit's suggestion sounded good although a quick private scan will be quicker and easier and definitely worth the money.

well am going to go for the private scan sod the money i need it. mothers bloke said he will take me and hubby (as we dont drive) friday night if i book it for then just waiting for hubby to get home speak to him and get him to fone and book it as im completly useless on a fone and cry down them lol.
my mother says i should go to the local paper and make people aware of how bad this is.
would like to say a huge thanks to everyone that has helped me in the past couple of weeks i sometimes feel like a right drama queen

Your not a drama queen u have every right to be scared and angry, i would just go to a and e right now and say you had a small loss and some cramps they will scan u straight away the *******s and if they dnt every1 from this forum will be picketting on there doorstep within 24 hrs this is disgusting and I work 4 the NHS

lol bless you hun i just really dont want to tempt fate and all that i have been to my dr's about a week ago and told her i fear for this baby as symtoms have gone but have different ones and i just dont feel right but of course she dint listen.
hopefully i can just get this private scan and il be all set to enjoy the rest of my pregnancy with or without the nhs

nope they have just taken it out for me apperntly everyone else is getting one
oh ive had hundreds of reasons including i cant have a scan till i have a m/w which is lies because with my last pg i had 2 before getting a midwife and i got offered a scan with this one without a midwife at first.
me and hubby have been thinking and i think they have put something on my file as everyone i speak to is shitty with me when im nice as pie and so is hubby

No but you don't get one everywhere- it depends where you live. In Bristol you don't get one, I think Somerset is the same and some other places in the South West. When I asked about it I was told that it was due to funding and the fact that most people know their dates anyway. No mention of the worry about abnormalities. It's hard as all my pregnant friends here don't realise that in other places you get a free 12 week scan. Those that can afford it go to Bupa but other than that you just have to wait until you're 20 weeks. That said we're lucky in Bristol as there's a good EPU and if you do have bleeding then it's pretty quick and easy to get a scan then as that has happened to a few friends.

im in south west and u get one in torbay hosp

torbay hosp id like to add have been nice as pie with us for our baby. without them our baby woulda of starved and cryed all the time the night we got discharged from hosp. we didnt think about food for her at the time was happy to get out.they saved us by giving us food for her till the shops opened on sunday

but youve been mistreated by your hosp and docs id make a formal complaint with both. change docs too. id borrow money of someone if i was you and get a scan done. if youve had a m/c before they normally get u in earlier and check u not having another one. unless im getting u mixed up with another thread

it's Manda who wants the scan and has been mistreated, I'm just moaning as a side point that you don't get a 12 week scan everywhere. Glad you did though! I used to think it was just Bristol but then last time someone else in the South West said that they hadn't been given one either. I wonder how many places don't get a 12 week scan then or if we're just unlucky? Hmm.

I would defo lie, they're not going to know that your lying, at your stage they would do a tummy scan. They would scan ovaries as well.

Also to cover yourself say its stopped now and that it was brown then a little bit of bright red.

What has your doctor said? Also they HAVE to give u a scan sooner because what about the nuchal one???

sorry i just seen this post i cant beleive they wont scan you, do they not even do reasurance scans where you are, my dr referred me to epu with my second pregnancy for a reasurrance at six weeks then they asked me when i wanted my next, which of coarse i said the following week, i have had this with all my pregnancies after about six weeks i get a scan every week, i guess im lucky with my gp and hospital in some ways. It annoys me how the nhs policy can be soo bloody different.

People may look down on me for this but I’m going to be honest and say that I was told that I wouldn’t get a scan until 12 weeks and I had suffered with an ectopic pregnancy before and I couldn’t sleep at night for worry and was imaging all these pains in my side – that I faked a bleed and went to A & E. They gave me a scan the next day

I don’t regret it in the slightest. I was a nervous wreck before I got my scan. Being upset and worrying is doing your baby no good. Also I just got told off of the EPU that it is against the law to not scan you at 12 weeks unless you have had a scan before this – have you already had a scan?
