after all the crap yesterday i was hitting an all time low and now i cant stop crying its gotten worse i am in complete bits AGAIN because of that stupid hospital AGAIN.
i recieved a letter today asking me to ring antinatal center i stupidly thought i would get a scan from them. so i rang them to be told that im not intitled to a scan at all untill im 16 weeks!!!! so i wont no till im 16 weeks if my baby has died again as my body cant miscarry them.
i really cant cope anymore what am i going to do if we cant afford the private scan.
im just about ready to give the whole thing up. the cheeky mare on the phone basicaly said its tough shit if my baby dies they aint gonna scan me

OMGG...thats terrible    You must feel awful..

People will probably look down on me for this, but in your case I think it might be necessary.... Go to the hospital emergancy department... Say you have bad cramps and have had spotting... and that you have a history of miscarriages... They might give you a scan then, and at least you'll know if your baby is alright..

Alternatively I would say go for a private scan, just one at a clinic somewhere, but as you said you can't afford one... I don't know if you could possibly borrow the money (it's around £80 I think) and then pay them back slowly over a few weeks/months.

I would also put in an official complaint... all women in the UK are entitled to a scan at 12weeks to check for abnormalities... Leaving you till 16 weeks is too late...

Keep fighting this hun, don't let them grind you down...

the only way i can think of to help you get your scan but not sure if you feel happy in saying this is to tell them you are spotting and have a few pains. i know this from my symptons that i had, ive so far had 2 scans and have got another one on friday, due to this

thanks girls my hubby said to do that but i cant help thinking about karma if i say that then it might happen. i will think about it though
just still in shock over it all i really am

Someone I know had some cramp like pain when she was about 8 weeks, she went to A and E who sent her over to maternity for an early scan.

A bit drastic.....and I would not usually say anything like this, but I feel they have treated you so badly, maybe you could fake some pain....get their attention that way and maybe you will get your scan.

You should not have to wait 16 weeks to see if everything is alright, thats totally absurd.

I really hope you get your scan

Manda try your local PALS (Patient Advice and Liason Service). If you want to PM me where you live I'll track the number for you or you can go through your GP, or google it, or simply ring directory enquiries.

Before you contact them try to write down all the 'facts'. What you were first told you would have and by who, the scan date you were given, who you've spoken to since and MOST IMPORTANTLY the effect it's having on you, your feelings and fears.

Make it CLEAR what you want but try to ask for what's achievable - perhaps a scan in the next fortnight rather than saying today which like as not they can't do.

Be very clear about asking to be sent information on how to make a formal complaint if this doesn't get resolved within (say a week?). Ask if you're entitled to an advocate (that will put the poo in their knickers a little!). Remember the PALS service reach their targets by resolving stuff before it goes to complaint so it can be a way to fast track action - especially if you are in the right!

Good luck!

im sure my doctor said that a heartbeat can be heard from 12 weeks with them handheld things the midwives use (dont know what they are called) so if you do have to wait till 16 weeks maybe you could ask the doctor at 12 weeks if they can have a listen for you.........just an idea.

thanks again all all that advice will pm you with where i live hun
yer a doppler but they cost £100 same as a private scan hun

I have to be honest and say that I would not go to A & E and fib about pains and stuff as I believe in karma and I think it comes back to bite you in the ass.

I would get in touch with your local health authority as others have suggested and make a complaint. If you can afford a doppler or a private scan in the meantime then I'd go for it.

I'm really sorry that you are in this position and I feel so bad for you. You should not be left like this. It's disgusting. Doctors are meant to be there to help you. All they are doing right now is causing you stress which isn't fair at all.

I hope you get somewhere with this. I really do. Keep us informed and here's a hug for you in the meantime because I think you need it....

Try E-Bay..you can get a much cheaper doppler on there..

i had a private scan with my third child, it cost 75 pounds and it was done at my local hospital, i will again have a private scan for this one at 20 weeks, as the scan was fantastic, instead of the quick in and out the nhs offer this concultant checked and showed me everything properly,i felt very assured that the baby was fine, i was in there forabout 45 minutes and got lots of pictures. my midwife gave me the number. i got a loan from my local provident agent for mine, pay back five pound a week.

right have found a place (recomemnded by some-one on here) they do a private scan cd and all the works for £50 its slightly difficult to get to but will pester mothers bloke or my dad for a lift only prob is cant have it till sat as hubby at work and he has to be there am feeling slightly better now thanks all and im defo going to follow threw with the complaint will keep you all updated

I agree with Squig, go to EPAC and say you have cramps & light spotting. Save your £50 and buy something cute for bubs. Ive had to go to EPAC a few times due to bleeding, thankfully everything is ok but if i was told i couldnt have one till 16 weeks id tell a tiny little white lie to check things are ok.

In all honesty, due to the fact you have miscarried before, you should be allowed to have an early scan for reassurance!?

I personnaly think the NHS are rubbish due to a few issues ive had with them so if you want an early reassurance scan why the hell not?? get what you can hun.

I think whoever it was you spoke to should start up practice with my GP!

Hope you manage to get a scan, i think i would pay for the scan but if money is tight go to the EPAC unit. Good luck x x x

Good luck hun. If you feel up to it I would def. get back in touch with your GP and tell them how low you are feeling, make sure it goes on your notes so if you need to refer back to it you've got something on paper.

Book in for the private scan, even if money is tight it will be so worth it and completely put your mind at rest.

yes, definately follow floppits advice. I think the way they have treated you is awful.
I hope this is resolved soon, I'm not surprised your feeling upset
