Hospital bag

Cereal bars but I keep raiding my bag and eating them so have to replace!! Also have a haribo mix but that's all, would be interested to see what everyone else has x

Haribo's good thinking. I was gonna take some energy drinks and some lolly pops. X

Lollipops are a great idea thanks!! I've got those nature or natural bars can't remember the name but they're just full of nuts and fruit and not too sweet. Reasonably healthy! Ill put in some fruity sweets like starburst, maybe a wee choccy bar and have a banana and other easy to munch fruit on hand to grab on way out the door.

Gosh, I'd not thought about this, but I LOVE snacks... The mind boggles... Yes, something very sweet for instant energy, plus some more slow-release energy snacks like cereal bars. Might make my own cereal bars... I'm more of a savoury food kind of girl, though. Anyone got any good ideas for savoury snacks?

I have always been into sweet things but through out this pregnancy I have prefered savoury snacks.... I pop my own popcorn and sprinkle them will a little salt, make slow release oat and peanut butter energy bars (basically a granola bar- replace the dried fruit with nuts/seed and agave with peanut butter).

I have a thing about bread sticks and cheese straws too!! xx

Oh and roasted chick peas are one of my favourite snacks x

I'm not, im having a section so your not allowed to eat or drink from midnight before.
i never took anything in when in labour with the girls either wasnt allowed to eat in labour.

I've got some plain digestive biscuits, couple of cereal bars and some crisps. OH keeps putting other things in - he thinks his throat has been cut if theres no food available lol xx

i didnt even think about this.... I might have to take a whole bag just for food and drinks haha....
Mmmm Ribena and Biscuits haha... :p xx
Not even packed my bag yet... or got half my stuff :( head has been else where... x

im packing some ribena and some boiled sweets to suck on and hopefully take my mind of the pain and some chocolate for after as a reward lol

im freezing a bottle of dilutable juice so whne i do go in it can gradually melt and still be cold. I also picked up some lucozade energy jelly beans in Boots the other day. Nature Vally Granola bars too but ive a feeling my mouth will already be so dry i wont want them so im going for boiled swets too :) xx

I'll probably pack Ribena and some cereal bars. Maybe some sweets, and I'll prob put some chocolate in there, although not sure I'll fancy it! I will probably pack more than I think I'll need as id rather have too much than too little! x

I was going to freeze some Ribena and take some chocolate covered raisins (I am kidding myself that these are almost healthy!) x

I think I am starting to get more worried about DH's food bag than mine!! He gets so grumpy when he is hungry!! x

I will be too scared to eat anything this time as last time I had dinner and some snacks and then I was so sick for the rest of my labour it was awful! I now will never eat fish & chips again :-(

Can you tell I hate to be sick :-)

So this time I'm going to pack some lucoazde sport and maybe a pack of boiled sweets! I will however put in a pack of energy/breakfast bar things because I hate hospital food so if i have to stay in I need to have something to hand I can just Munch on!

Random contribution, but it might be useful to share:

At our antenatal class yesterday the midwife recommended glucose tablets and energy drinks for established labour. She said not to eat too large a meal at any point as you're quite likely to throw that all up again if you use gas and air or an opiate drug for pain relief. Because the uterus uses so much energy during contractions, it's important to load your body up with carbs in small amounts in early labour - so starchy snacks, high energy foods etc. will help to build up the glycogen stores in your liver and muscles, so that you can last for the whole labour without getting exhausted. It's basically like preparing to run a marathon. If you run out of carbs your body starts to metabolise fat stores, which leads to a build-up of ketones in your body. Too many ketones will disrupt the pattern of your contractions and could even stop them, which is no good at all. So, in short, don't forget to eat before it becomes too painful, eat small snacks regularly, and make sure they are carb-heavy. Hooray for carbs! x
