Hopefully being referred for Ivf!

Quick recap on my story
Been off the pill for 3 years in April. Been ttc since Feb 2013 (cycle started January 2013). Only had 6 cycles last year. Saw my doctor in October 2013- and within a month I had blood tests and a scan which confined PCOS.
Went to see the doctor to see what would happen next- hubby needed a SA.
Came back with a good count etc but with 3% morphology- so he was classed as slightly abnormal.
Then my doctor wanted me to take the pill for 3 months solid in the hope that I would ovulate when I came off it- which to me seemed pointless because I'm ovulating every other cycle so if I go on the pill I've potentionally stopping 1 or 2 natural ovulations. I understand if I was only ovulating a few times in the year- as I would make me ovulate an extra time but it's not going to.
Hubby repeated a SA a month after his first one and came back with 1% morphology and classed as abnormal.
Soooooo after taking the pill for a week in December I experienced horrendous cramps so I stopped it- the cramps stopped and af arrived 5 days later. Figured that it wa af making me cramp before not the pill so started it again... Then the cramps returned! So stopped it again.

Anyway I went to see the doc this morning and said my concerns about the pill and how it seemed to be stopping the one thing I wanted ( it was a diff doc than my own as I'd requested to see her as I wanted a second opinion on what to do and she was the one who referred me for PCOS scan).
She said I could be given Clomid but will have to have my tubes checked and with hubby's SA results we will probably be better going straight for Ivf!
She said she needed to fill out some paperwork and speak to someone then she will ring me. Hoping she will ring me soon!

I'm only 23 and hubby 24. Didn't think we would end up going down the Ivf route but I'm happy we're making progress and hopefully will get our bfp in 2014!!

Sorry for the long post just wondered if anyone could shed a little light of what might be happening next if we got referred x

Wow! I've been trying for a year now and am going to ring my doctor Thursday to see what can Happen next. I didn't know they would go for ivf that quickly! Is that because of ur pcos and ur ohs sperm though ? Xxx

Yeh I think so. She basically said Clomid won't be any good to try first because of SA- I reckon if hubby was ok then we would try Clomid first. I was shocked she mentioned Ivf- thought that would be a long way off. Have you had any tests done yet? X

That's so good though!! I think you will have to wait a while on the list but still amazing ! No my periods have been regular the last few months for the first time in my life! But Sttill nothing's happened so going to try get referred for tests after a year I think you have the right to be seen. Would be nice to get a laparoscopy for reassurance will ask on Thurs. would like oh to get a SA Too xxx let us know what they say next

Ah hopefully your body is regulating then! We're u on the pill or anything? Yeh after a year of trying you're entitled to find out what's going on etc. Fingers crossed you get an appointment and start the process! It's good for OH to have a SA too because then atleast you know from both sides x

Well..... I'm rather happy as got a call from doc saying she will refer us to fertility clinic and got an appointment on 25th Feb!!!!!!! X

Could anyone enlighten me on what will happen on our first appointment? X

I cant but I will just say a friend went for IVF and ended up spending an extra £500 while there pushed into 'extras' that when she went home and researched where pointless but it was then and there they wanted a yes or no so they forked over. So my only advice is do a lot of research into the 'extras' and decide what you want and take the money. Although this wont apply to your fertility appointments its further on. Best of luck xxx

Thanks for the reply! Any idea of what these extras where? I've only read up on procedure but not much else! I shall have a good old look on the internet over the weekend! X

she mentioned extra freezing time and hourly checks instead of four hours or something, which she later realised was pointless as if they didn't survive there was nothing that could be done so why pay extra for someone to stand and watch it happen? I don't remember any more, but they paid on there credit card and where left paying it off. x

It was kinda on the spot 'you could do with this extra check' it wasn't until after she thought well even when they check them they cant do anything if they are dying there not strong enough to survive so she might as well as saved her money. She ended up MC that baby unfortunately and in my area its only 1 free go. So she has debts from a mc which is sad. Not trying to worry you it did work she just unfortunately miscarried. xx

Bless her that must have been awful for her- and I suppose paying the debt off was a constant reminder of her mc . Trying to think positive! I'm 23- nearly 24 so hoping that because I'm young we have a good chance all though it doesn't work for everyone! Kinda hoping that in the time we're waiting for the treatment etc I fall naturally! That would be a bonus! X

Yeh fx for you, she is only 25 but she has two wombs or something and its tilted so that had something to do with it xx

Good luck jade. We also have male factor and if you're entitled to nhs IVF you get referred if two separate SAs show subnormal counts, ours is the morph too. Get your hubby on wellman or zita west vitamen boost and do the usual reduce booze and caffeine as it can have great results, my hubby takes zita west, extra vit c with zinc and pycnogenol.

Your first appointment if like mine will weigh you and go through your history/tests etc and perhaps send your for an hsg yo check your tubes and they'll take it from there xx

Ah lovely thank you for the info just so we can prepare ourselves! He's on Wellman and I'm on pregnacare and I'm lucky that he doesn't smoke or drink! I'm going to ask him to cut down caffeine- even if it's just by one cup a day and I only have 3 small cups so ill cut down too! Although I have PCOS I'm not overweight etc- I'm 5.3 and weigh about 9st so I think that's right for my size .

Feb can't come quick enough lol x
