OMG saw a story in the newspaper today, it was a SUICIDE FORUM!!!!! A couple of people met on it and arranged a joint suicide (they carried it out too)!

Never, ever would I have thought that such a forum would exist. How sad :-(

Guess there's one for everything these days

Unfortunatly there's quite a few I've heard of! Those and anorexia support forums (making anorexia seem glamorous and a great thing, encouraging each other to eat less and less) and self harm support forums are getting more and more popular!

I know, shocking isn't it, but I'm not surprised, you can find forums and websites for absolutely anything these days - the Internet is great but it is bad for people like this who should be getting proper help not chatting to others encouraging them to do stupid things.

Not much shocks me but I was like  at least this is a good positive forum offering practical advice for good reason. What a messed up world it is when people encourage each other on such tragic issues as suicide :-(

Omg!!! Thats shocking!! I never knew such forums existed..maybe I'm naive!

I tried joining a pro-anorexia forum once - it was a forum where they encouraged each other to starve and by pointing out each others "fat bits" - and they wanted me to send them photos of my own emaciated body before they would let me join because they didn't want anyone to challenge them.

Oh, i've never been anorexic by the way, i couldn't believe such a site existed and wanted to see for myself is all :)

You tried to hi-jack the forum?
Those sorts of forums are so, so dangerous. If only there was something that could be done to stop them. At least the worst we can do on here is rant a bit! :oooo: xx

I guess it would be quite interesting to see what sort of thing is said, but I wouldn't be able to keep my mouth shut and tell them that they were all far too skinny and to go eat some lovely food and be content with themselves (thus making me a forum enemy :oooo:) x

I was reading The Sun and seen about this! One user was dubbed "Dr Death" he would give HELP and ADVICE on the "best" ways to do it :wall2: Was also seen msging the woman who committed suicide saying "Still alive?" and when the guy was posting saying he was doing it that day people were wishing him LUCK, how sick!

I'm glad there's repercussions for people like that! The really sick thing is as well that the people encouraging them to do it might have no intentions of doing it themselves iygwim? The people who are looking to commit suicide are obviously very vulnerable people and to think some sadist is out there sat at home, probably bored, encouraging them and then logging off and carrying on with their lives makes me feel worse than if it was someone with the same intentions.

It's an impossibility at the moment but the Internet needs policing for stuff like this! It terrifies me to think if DD was every slightly unhappy and stumbles across a site like that it could be the push to her actually doing something she might not otherwise do!

Yep Helen 123, people may google depression and then they are almost forced into suicide! Very strange people. I hope they find a way of policing it too, it's so bad! X

OMG Im horrified! It scares me that the LO will grow up in this world. I dont want him to have his own computer to be honest. I think we'll get a family PC that I can monitor. So sad that this happens to very vulnerable people.

I was so shocked reading that article :-( she lived not far from me....

Awful isn't it :( I saw that in the paper too. There was a very similar article about what I assume is the sane place a couple of years ago too.. sad that nothing has been done about it in all that time knowing that it encourages people

:( a local shop keeper in my area committed suicide on bank holiday weekend he was so nice and you just wouldn't of thought he was like that.....
