If your a bit lost like me about what is very important to buy or what to not bother with then let me know!
There's ALOT of things out there to buy for your baby but I don't have a clue what is actually needed or what's best! Like even how many new born clothes to buy? Is a sling better than a carrier? What's the best bottles out there? Do people bottle feed and breast feed at the same time??! Questions questions questions!

Hello! I understand you're excited just like me before. To give you some advice, I bought a bottle feed, and the basic needs of a newborn after my ultrasound to know if it is a boy or a girl. I bought a carrier instead of a sling right after my baby was born.

me too as i looked recently into what i needed for a hospital bag and had a minor breakdown

there used to be a fab list on here somewhere from some years back I will see if i can bump it

There's one on the flo pregnancy app, I love it!

My must haves are a cosleeper, babies like to sleep with you, not in a basket next to you. Muslins are helpful for all sorts, I place one on the bed for leakage and night feeds etc. Sleep suits with built in scratch mits, regular ones do Not stay on lol. Breast pads, lots of them. Slings are far better than carriers! Hubby got a carrier and it was useless until our son was bigger, no head support, a pain to get him in and out etc. Decent car seat with base as that will fit in any car was extremely useful for us. Pram with good suspension, otherwise they get every bump and keep waking up. If you will have to pump, find one you get along with. I got an expensive one and once my nipples changed from feeding I don't get on with it at all and havnt used so that was a waste of money. Nipple cream is sooo helpful in early days when milk comes in. Breastfeeding Hurts, a lot, you will bleed and scab and want to stop, but grit your teeth, stick with it and your body adjusts then it becomes easy!
Also for after birth hubby got me some tenna lady pants, they were amazing for controlling leaks whilst still bleeding. They are scented so I put a maternity pad in them, made life much easier and more comfortable. If you pack snacks try to take light things that won't make you sick in labour, but afterwards eat whatever the heck you like as you will be starving and you deserve it.
Things I didn't need were lots of cloths, they grow out of them sooo fast! Baby lotions and potions, he's 12weeks and so far have not used any of them (water alone is best). However I do occasionally use sudocrem. Mits, shoes etc not needed or used, hats don't stay on unless wooly, slightly elastic. Dummies, we have not used as havnt had the need to.
I have found that keeping it simple is best, then buy things as you need them if you would find anything else helpful along the way. We have far too much 'stuff' that people gifted to us and we havnt used so it's now just clutter and in the way.
I exclusively breast feed so nursing tops and bras are a must, I find the clips on tops snap easily so be careful when choosing.
A tip that a nurse gave me was to not mix breast milk and formula, especially in early days as your colostrum coats the babies stomach with good stuff, using formula can destroy that and lines it with not so good stuff and makes baby more prone to being sick etc (something along those lines, I can't remember exactly) . So if you do plan to bottle feed at all, try to wait a little while. My boy is only breastfed, so far he's never had colic and has only been sick twice! He's 12weeks now.
I also regret not having any professional pictures done as a newborn, they grow really fast so take in every moment :)
Good luck ladies, becoming a mum is the most amazing thing!

Tip for hospital bag : put outfits into large ziplock bags with a nappy and with size of outfit on the bag
-I unexpectedly had a large baby that went straight into 0-3m outfits (which of course I didn’t pack) but after having our daughter, my husband went into the bag and freaked out (not completely, just couldn’t find what he needed) so I then got pissy with him, which didn’t help, and he couldn’t find an outfit big enough for her.

I exclusively breastfed aswell and found oversized muslin cloths a god send! Covers you whilst feeding, wipes up mess, put them under you or baby for spit ups. So many uses, great for colds as they get older.

Depending on milk supply too you may need to express (which you can obviously get daddy up in the night to try baby with hehe) so I had a cheap manual hand pump at the start then once I knew I needed a good one and knew I had established breastfeeding I got a more expensive one that did the pumping for me haha.

You can always increase milk supply with specially made milkshake or even cookies/ brownies, I follow a few on instagram so don’t ever think that should be an issue in breastfeeding.

Can’t think of anymore good tips, you kind of find out what is right for you and go with it. I had a friend who had a boy who used to wee every time you took his nappy off so she use to put a nappy under dirty one ready, roll his clothes and place a flannel on top, looked like such a faff to me but of course changing his whole outfit was more of a faff haha

Good luck x

You can never have enough sleepsuits! It’s your first baby so you may want to but cute outfits for newborns are a massive faff, same applies with shoes until they need pre walkers.

We had a co sleeper as a pp mentioned. You may want to exclusively BF but equally you may change your mind for whatever reason so I’d research your bottles/formula and breast pumps now (mam anti colic for us and always had aptamil - I have combo fed both due to supply issues and also means I’ve had a break!). Someone else has mentioned ways to increase milk supply if needed. Fenugreek, porridge oats are a good start. Get some good nursing bras and lansinoh nipple cream!

We used to fold a Muslin and tuck in tightly over mattress where baby’s head was so we didn’t have to change the sheet a hundred times a week after they’d been sick!

Go with the flow for your birth. You might have set ideas but all this can go out the window so just do what’s right in the moment. Have a jug by your toilet post birth for cool water on your bits! Also a chilled pad can be a welcome relief! Also don’t listen to anyone’s horror stories!

Visitors are on your terms and you can be selfish as you like. If you’re not ready for people to visit then just say, or don’t answer the door!

Lots of tips on the post already but if you have any questions then ask away!

Most important advice from me is be kind to yourself. You will have done the hardest thing you’ll ever do and your hormones will be going crazy so just take one minute at a time and don’t beat yourself up over anything x

Good morning!

We all know what we need its just making sure we dont go crazy and by everything the shops have to offer!

My personal must haves are:
1. Sleep sacks
2. Mam bottles
3. A good baby monitor with a screen to see little ones
4. A 2 in 1 bath (for new born laying down & once they are old enough to sit alone)
5. The large muslin clothes as i found the smaller ones were big enough and the larger ones can also be used as a thing blanket for the summer months.
6. Milk containers (if you are bottle feeding)
7. A crib (i used a moses basket, would never have one again! ( when baby was ever sick it was hard to clean the whicker part - so not hygienic as a crib would be. Also my son outgrew his very quick! - he was 10lb 4oz when he was born!)
8. Stock up on calpol, teething gel/powder.
9. Supermarket nappies always seem to be better than the top brands (pampers/huggies)

Things that i wouldnt buy again:
1. Matching cot bedding. (Literally a sleep sack is all you need)
2. Outfits (babygrows/sleep suits and vests are all you need for the first few months, and plenty of them!

Cant think of anything else right now but ask away if you think so anything.

For yourself!:
In hospital :
1.Loads of sanitary towels
2.Great big granny pants
3.Dry shampoo
4.Comfortable bra
5.Lose clothing

For baby:
1.Plenty of wipes and nappies (the first poos they do are explosive!)
2.Several baby grows and vests. ( better to have too many than no enough!)
3.Washing essentials
4. Maybe nail clippers as nails can be long
5.cotton wool
6. Hats
7. Blankets
8. Baby towel
9. Aveno/moisturiser (there skin may be dry)

Hope this helps a little. Xx

I know everyone says to take big granny knickers to hospital but take some normal ones to

Last pregnancy I had big ones but my tummy was still pretty big and they pinched my tummy making me feel more uncomfortable. This time I'll just be taking normal knickers that sit under my belly

Two weeks in with baby number 2 here.

My must have; buy some Vanish (you know the pink tub of stuff) to scoop in with the baby clothes. Forgot how quickly things get stained! Super annoying going through a wash going "nope, nope, nope, rewash"

Also anyone due imminently in this heat, my daughter is living in her nappy and her vests. Even all the pretty sleepsuits I have right now, which I bought good ones thinking at least she would get use of, are being wasted

Top tip....don't stress about what to pack for yourself in your hospital bag....I took loads, including three 'outfits' for labour....i spent 24 hours in my bra and nothing else!

Muslins, and loads of them. Buy dummies, even if you don't think you want to use them....they may save you at a desperate moment! If you want to breastfeed, buy nipple cream and use it religiously after every feed in the early days. Even if you don't feel like you need it. It really helps.

My must-have’s would be
co-sleeping cot (brought two up without mind you, but once discovered I’d never be without)
your own boobs if you can! but nipple shields and lansinoh cream a must for me at first
ewan the dream sheep - for bedtime relaxation
Gina Ford’s contented baby book - I resisted routine with my first two, but saw the light with my third.
