Hi ladies I was looking for some advice and hope you don't mind me posting in this section.

I've been referred to the fertility clinic for my first appt in a few weeks and wondered what I should expect?xxx

Hi hun, I did a post a few weeks about this. My first appointment was with the nurse and she just went over our background/lifestyle and checked what tests we'd already had. We were then told to do another SA and I had to get a chlamydia swab taken as I haven't had it done in the last 12 months and we were then booked in to see the consultant in 7 weeks. They also booked me in for a scan to check for PCOS and to check everything looks normal. I'm now waiting for my appointment with the consultant and am quite excited to hear what the next step is lol.

Hope this helps and good luck xx

Thanks for the reply thats really helpful.
I'm not sure whether my oh is to come with me or not, I better check! Have you had your scan already? It feels good when things are progressing xx

I had my appointment earlier this week. I went on my own which seemed to be ok. I had already had blood tests and scan done by gp. Oh had had SA done as well but they said he needs to repeat it. I saw a nurse who went through medical history and what tests had already been done etc. then she went off to talk to consultant, came back and said I needed to have a hsg, which is now booked in for 4 weeks time. Then I will go back to see consultant to decide on course of action hopefully.

Good luck!

Hi Anna I think I might be in a similar situation to you as I've already had lots if tests done and they are saying a hsg would be next. I don't know much about it though, what is it?xx

Yes I had my scan a couple of weeks after the initial appointment, apparently everything looks 'boringly normal'! It's another thing ticked off the list though :)

My letter said that my partner should attend and they did want to chat through his history so I'm guessing yours will need to attend xxx

It's to test if your tubes are blocked. It's done in the x-ray department. They inject dye inside you to see if it flows through or not.

Have you already had blood test and scan done? Do you know what's causing your irregular cycles?

I've had a few blood tests and scans as they were checking into my supposed pcos but gave now confirmed I don't have it. They don't know why I have irregular cycles gynae was happy just to fob me off after showing no pcos but managed to talk them into referring me to fertility clinic. Hoping they will do some more digging and give me clomid to help ovulate more regularly xxx

We had 21 day bloods and swabs done before and also OH had semen analysis before too. We saw consultant straight away, maybe cos we had had most of tests done . He went through medical history of myself and OH and sent me for a hsg and pelvic scan the following cycle. Also wanted more detailed semen analysis so arranged that too. It does make you feel better to be getting some help, hope all goes well for you x

Hi,

I am going for my second infertility appt in Aug. At our first appt it was a nurse who saw us and she did a vaginal scan and checked my ovaries and womb. She also took loads of blood samples and height, weight and health history of myself and my hubby. We are being treated as a couple so he had to attend as he is also being checked too. One thing our clinic asked for was passport photos of us so they could keep them on file. I thought this to be strange so I asked about it. It is so they can check we are the same person each time we go as they have previously had folk spilt up and then try and attend the clinic under their previous partners name!

Good luck hun,xxx

Thanks for the info Lynne, I think I better call and check if oh is supposed to come as the letter just arrived for my name today. That's crazy about the photos! The letter says my consultants name but then says please note this is a specialist nurse clinic - confusing xx

My first apt at fertility unit, I had to bring hubby and we both had to provide photographic ID to prove we were who we had said, app they have people sent other people in to get around the HIV/hepatitis tests etc?

We talked through the process of what would happen (we were doing IUI first), both had blood tests for HIV/hepatitis etc, then I had blood tests for hormones/AMH done. I also had swaps taken for any infections etc (I had already had the chlamydia test done at my GP's). I also had to provide a rubella immunity test result and my most recent smear results.

Prior to the apt I had already had an echovist scan at another hospital where they put the dye in and ultrasound scan to check for any blockages and various blood tests done.

Hi ladies

Just had my first fertitlity appt this morning, it was very positive. OH did come with me and they asked him some questions, I have to go back next Friday to get an injection (in my bum!) to kick start my period and she will decide whether to give me 3 months of clomid to try or do an HSG before any clomid.

Exciting that things are progressing :) x

Wow that's great it went so well. Let us know how the next one goes. I have my hsg and follow-up appt with consultant soon - fx we will both be well on our way soon!

Thanks Anna, I'll keep you posted. Are you taking any meds whilst waiting for your HSG?xx

No - they wouldn't prescribe anything until after that. Seeing the consultant on aug 6th so hopefully he will put me on clomid or sth then

Sounds good, hope all goes well for your HSG next Friday, let us know how you get on xx
