~February & March Mummies and Babies~

What have they given you for it Diane???? Hopefully Sky feels better soon!!
Glad that rush of love has come, she is beautiful!
Just put CJ down, gonna try and get my head down too! Xx

Cj just took a 4oz feed then vomitted on me, finally got him settled and put him down and he projectile vomitted the rest all over me as he was laid on the bed! Needless to say I had to change him, me and the bed..... And numnuts' response....... Lol!!!! It's ok for him, he is at work all night and will sleep all day, where as I've been up half the night with a poorly little man, and will be up all day too, he really isn't himself my poor little poppet!!!!
And to top it all off, I'm hardly getting any milk again, I have enough for 2 feeds, and that's it, soooooo worried how I'm gonna manage!!!!
Guess it's off to the drs we go in the morning!!!! Xx

Morning guys. Sorry been so quiet since had my little one. Been a a touch 10 days adjusting and had afew teething problems? So, Lilly was born on the 26th of feb 8 days over due and just a 4 and a half hour labour! It happened so fast. The day or the birth I had a midwife appointment at 1pm. All morning I was callin maternity unit saying how far apart contractions were etc. they told me I could be like it for days and to still go to midwife appointment at 1pm. Even though I knew I should be at hospital I did as was told and went to doctors to see midwife. After been in tears in waiting room and stared at I was called in. I swear everyone thought I was being over dramatic. The midwife examined me, looked t me and said.... Rachel why are you here and not in hospital, you are 6cm dilated!!!! I explained I had been to.d still to come and she wasn't happy with hospital lol. Left doctors at 1.05pm and Lilly was born in birth pool (just!!) at 14.41. I was in shock big time. Had to have stitches in and out which still hurt! Baby and I well.

Breast feeding has been a struggle. Two days after Lilly born and a lot of pain feeding my nipples gave in and started bleeding whilst I was feeding her. I was gutted, loads of milk but she couldn't latch on properly and kept sucking ends hence them giving up. So now I express and but it in bottle. Hard work but want her to have best start. So that is a brief over view of my past ten days!!! Lots of tears too, I cry at anything lol.

How is everyone getting on? Anyone else had to pack up putting lo on boob? It has really made me feel a failure and found hard to come to terms with. Even midwifed couldn't get her to latch on in correct position. They said my nipple to big for her mouth lol. Xx

Diane go back to the docs hun. They might try something else xxx

Hi Rachel. Did ur midwife suggest lansinoh nipple cream? It helps loads. U put it on beforehand after they feed and it's harmless to the baby. Have u looked in to there being any breastfeeding support groups in ur area? Often they're a better bet than midwives. More specifically trained and got personal experience. They might even be able to latch babe on for u and still establish feeding if u were still keen to give it a go? I take my hat off to u all expressing I don't think I could do it x

Rachel, I exclusively express too as my little man won't latch!!! Pm me if you need to chat about it x

Hl28, thanks for reassuring me! I just look at my lo and cry sometimes feel such a prat! I brought that nipple cream and has helped heal the nipples up. I am scared to bf now to be honest. It hurt so much and looking down to see my princess with blood all in her mouth and on her face scared the shit out of me to put it bluntly. It is hard expressing as you feel you are doing double the feeds (expressing and feeding). Only bonuses are you see what they have Ns husband loves helping more.

sassy, are you expressing with electric pump? I have brought one, an SMA one. Expensive and not too impressed if honest. Thank you for the support. Missed being on here but time just flies by at min xx

I swap between my manual and electric, both are tommee tippee, to be honest I get better results with the manual! I would rather get a better one but just can't afford it!!!! I'm attached now!!!

I tried getting little man to latch in the night, he sucked my nipples but refused to do anything else!

He is now fast asleep in his basket after a cuddle with daddy who (un)helpfully said "oh he isn't like that for me!" and is now in bed asleep too!!!
It's been a long night and will be a long day! Trying to ring drs but it's engaged :-( xxx

Hi Rachel!! I can't believe how quick your labour was you trooper!
As for breastfeeding, I had the exact same problem as you. She just wouldn't latch, she hurt me a lot and the lactation nurse at the hospital put it down to my small nipple and large areolas confusing the baby. Obviously I felt like the biggest failure in the world. So I started expressing and doing formula top ups (only to help her regain birth weight).

Then one day at around day 18 when we weren't doing anything, she wasn't too hungry and I was relaxed, I got her down to her nappy and lay her near my breast, I took her head to see if she would latch and she did! It didn't hurt either. So since then I've been breast feeding and expressing so I can give her a big bottle at night time.

Though I still worry she's not getting enough milk and I'm obsessed with the colour and consistency of her poos.

It's never easy! But don't feel like any kind if failure. Just remember formula exists because breast feeding can be just so stressful! Also exclusively expressing is such hard work, you're doing brilliantly for Lily!

Is your OH still at home? How are you finding motherhood (the stress if breast feeding aside!)

Sassy, sorry to hear about CJ. Could he be going through a growth spurt? Is he around 5 weeks? I've heard that they go through a grizzly phase around then?
Also just wanted to say, you're so strong doing a night by yourself!! I have yet to do that and am dreading it.

I'm so glad it's the weekend tomorrow! OH can do the night feed if I express!

Sassy I hope your little man is ok. Horrid feeling when something wrong.
I find manual better to be honest. Sill use electric as I don't have to break my back and hand with all the movements lol but electric takes longer. So glad I am not alone, felt I had failed! Xx

Your definatly not alone and I'm so with you with the hand ache, I also find I express less and less through out the day, which is so annoying!!!

Babybee, he will be 5 weeks on Monday (OMG!!!!) he seems to be struggling with his tummy, when he poos/trumps it seems to be a real struggle, and he doesn't burp very much, he hasn't from birth though to be honest!
I have another night alone tonight, and same on Sunday, I'm absolutely shattered to be honest as it was a very long night!!!!
We have the drs at 10:50am, got loads to get her to check, little mans eyes, chest and this trapped wind..... I wanted to see her too but they couldn't get me an appointment! Wanna ask about meds to help with my milk!!!
Grrrr!!!

Hope you all had a better night than we did, and that you have a good day :-) xx

Glad you got an appt for cj sassy! I can't get one for my lo until next wed WTF she's not drinking her milk now, only had about 80ml since 9 last night someone is calling me back tho so hope they do something :-/

Diane! That's ridiculous! GPs are so annoying. Surely they should prioritise babies!!

Hey babybee. Good to hear from you :). I have been topping up with formular, prob one a day. Lilly is suffering with wind so may try those dr brown bottles. Have you heard of them?

It is so hard trying to work out if doin right thing or not. Some midwifes say one thing and then another different. It has to get easier lol.

Husband goes back to work on 18th so another week thank god. He has been amazing and dread him returning. Got hospital appointment in half hour to check Lilly's weight etc. fingers crossed she is ok.

How are you after your op?

Quick question..... Lilly hasn't pooped since Tuesday and her tummy is bloated bless her. How long do your lo's go for? Xx

I have those Dr Brown bottles, I find they're really good. I had to use disposable ones whilst in hospital and have really noticed the difference in her gas since using the Dr Browns. However she still gets a lot of trapped wind and am now giving her infacol before each feed which is helping. I did find that mixed feeding made her a little constipated too.

I found the midwives in the hospital added to the stress of feeding. Some were so anti bottle feeding it made me feel so guilty! Just do what you think is right. I'm still working out what's right for mine.

As for poo, I've heard that some babies poo after every feed (especially if breast fed) and others take upto 3-5 days. You should be concerned if the baby suddenly has a change in pattern.

I've also avoided eating gassy veg (broccoli, cauliflower, onions etc) as that was contributing to her constipation and trapped wind.

I'm good thanks after the op. I've been lucky to not have had any complications but I need to remember not to overdo it!

You're so lucky having an extra week with your husband!!!
Good luck with the weight check!xx

Well I'm at the doctors now they said they wanna see her, so they should!

We just got back from drs, she isn't concerned about him, he is gaining weight so she said not to worry about the vomitting, also if need be I can give him alittle bit of water for constipation, but he just did an explosive nappy so maybe getting over that!!! As for his eyes she said to dilute no more tears baby shampoo in water and bath his eyes with that, as technically, although he is nearly 5 weeks, he is only actually 2 weeks old as he was prem so his tear ducts may still be blocked!!!
Made a cuppa gonna have that and express then hope he goes to sleep so I can sleep for a while!
Hope it goes ok at drs Diane, keep us updated!!! Xx

Great news about cj sassy! I've got some more meds for sky; a gel this time also gotta buy all new bottles for her and if she's still only taking 1/2 her food today to take her in again tomorrow. But she has just drained 140ml so fingers crossed!
