~February & March Mummies and Babies~

I can't remember if she's older or younger than jasmine. I've lost count of weeks lol. Jas still has 4 x 8oz bottles a day and 3 full meals a day! But she's losing weight so we can't really attempt to drop a bottle at the minute! X

E's 10th Feb, so I think a little older than Jas?
Oh who knows with these babies! You think you have them sussed and then they change.

I hope Jas is ok? Is the weight loss related to her bug?x

That and the fact she is so active! Taking her for her 8-10 month check on Tuesday so hoping she's gone back up again! Even if she's put 1oz on ill be happy!! X

She will be I'm sure. She's looking as though she's thriving!x

She is! Just smiles constantly!

How you thinking of changing to cows milk? I was thinking of gradually introducing it from about 11 months x

I didn't know they have an 8-10 month check? S hasn't been seen by anyone for at least 6 months now?

Bb, S hasn't been wanting more food (she still has 3x 9oz bottles and 3 meals and snacks) but was incredibly fussy clingy moaning Etc for about a week so I'm thinking maybe growth spurt or the 7th leap. Thankfully *touch wood* she's back to normal now!

Do we have to move them to cows milk at a year? I'm worried about moving skyler off her reflux milk so was gonna keep her on formula.

No you don't have to I don't think.

We didn't know about the check either until the Hv told us last week to take her in for it. Think some areas do it and some don't x

Diane, my area don't do it but my GP is so useless that even if she did I would come out none the wiser to how E is doing. I do have a 1 year check at the hospital though.

As for cows milk, no I don't think you have too at all. I want to do it as I would rather make the transition from breastmilk to cows milk straight away and not use formula as an interim. I wouldn't be so quick to make the transition if it wasn't for work. You do whatever is best for Skyler hun!
Thanks for letting me know how S was as E seems very similar to that.

Nicky, no idea how I'm going to do it, I'm so out of my depth! I was talking to my friend and I'm going to try and give her morning feed half as cows milk in a sippy cup and then gradually build it up. I can hear more established mums laughing at my plan as it's so shaky. Any tips much appreciated though!!x

It's with our hv. Think it's head weight and length measurements. Then a few other things are checked but not sure what they are. Ill let you know after Tuesday x

Sounds like a good plan to me, BB. Just be prepared for her not to have any or very much cows milk at first. It can take babies 20 or 30 exposures to start eating / drinking something new and she might just not like cows milk. Lily started refusing all milk shortly after she turned one so we just gave her cheese and yoghurt etc instead. Otherwise you could try expressing and mixing ebm and cows milk in the cup. But it might confuse her, having breast milk from anything but you! Whatever you do, keep at it and give her time to adjust without getting stressed over it (if you can!) and chances are she'll get there.

When are you going back to work? I know they say not to give cows milk as a drink before one, but I can't imagine giving her an ounce before each feed would be a problem and that way you could start in good time and have less pressure on you both?

Thanks for that Lily. My friend was telling me she had to do the same thing with her little girl too. I'll prepare for that. So how much dairy/milk should they be having after 1?
I go back to work on 3rd March and she turns 1 on the 10th Feb so I'm going to try and start getting her to try it from 11 months to try and get her used to it. Is that too early?x

I have some very wacky (to some!) opinions about cows milk. We won't be giving cow milk at all, there is no need for cow milk in a child's diet. The dairy industry and their big bucks did a fabulous job of convincing people that humans should drink another species milk. After pastrurisation and homogenization there are so few nutrients left and modern farming methods are only making that worse. Almonds, spinach etc are better sources of calcium. Four spoons of tahini has more calcium, more easily absorbed than an entire cup of milk.

E is about 70cms long, we are in a king sized bed. Why am I left with about twenty cms and clinging onto the edge,?

Talulahgosh I feel your pain! I'm in a double with O. There's MORE than enough room for us both, yet I wake up every morning on the edge while he's starfished in the middle!

According to my mum Spencer is still wide awake and rolling about like a loony, he's been awake since they picked him up at 1pm lol!

Thanks for the info tallulah. I don't drink cows milk either so I definitely think I'm gonna leave it out of S's diet.

Lol Talulah you and my mum must be kindred spirits as she constantly tells me the same.
How long will you breastfeed for in that case?
Xxx

There is a lot of research online as well, diane, about the benefits of leaving cow milk out of your diet. I can't seem to find any reason to include it, I don't drink milk either but do eat cheese, yoghurt.

Not sure on the breastfeeding. Until E weans himself hopefully, but we are ttc and I am wondering if my cycles are anovulatory and if the breastfeeding is contributing to that. I am wrestling with wanting to be pregnant already and wanting to let E lead the way. I will rethink after his first birthday.

I'm in the exact same position as you. My periods have come back but very irregularly and I want to ttc from Feb but I also want E to lead the way. For me there's also work so I'm going to need to steer her in the direction of few feeds to no feeds. I was thinking just keeping up the night feeds. It's definitely tricky.

As for milk, I hate it, it makes me feel sick. I don't even like milkshakes. I'm also allergic to dairy in large quantity - milk being the big culprit! My husband is the total opposite so I'm going to see if she'll take it but if not and isn't looking for a substitute of breastfeeds then I'll be following your lead too Talulah.
My mum is convinced milk leads to more coughs and colds.
X
