Did anyone watch the Extraordinary Breastfeeding programme on "Watch" last night?

It was quite shocking in places... it's on again tonight for anyone wanting to watch it.

What are your thoughts on when we should stop breastfeeding?

Oooh i wanna watch it, Sky has been playing up all day saying there is no signal. any idea what time its on ?

Is that the one where mum's are feeding 10 year olds or something like that?

It's just wrong and gross.

I reckon I'm gonna try somewhere between 3-6 months, but if I don't get on with it, then I won't beat myself up over it and go onto formula instead.

That's the one! It really does make you wonder about some people. I'm the same as you hun - i'm going to try an if I don't get on with it then go on formula.

It was on channel 4 b4 and it made me cringe...my opinions r that breastfeeding is important for the 1st few months, and is easier and cheaper but then is a personal choice but tbh I think that school age children shouldn't b breastfed xx

Feeding a child for that long must make your nipples like leather!

It was mad learning how some mothers breastfeed there children for so long. But yeah - I agree - school kids should not be breastfed. x

i will breastfeed noa til he is 6 month, after that its OHs turn
im not gonna watch it it will make me feel ill i think.
your child dont need the breast milk really after 6 month, but if you breastfeed after your child is a year i think its just the mum that have a problem to let go of the child.

interesting comment Isobel84 - they reckon that the EU state a child should be breastfed to the age of 4! And over here at least 2 - (think I got that right! - anyone watching it tonight feel free to correct me!) It's all quite confusing. As for me - this is my first child so it's all a case of if I get on with breastfeeding whether I will breastfeed or use formula. xx

its been on b4 and i watched it again lastnite,

i was really surprised that you can still breastfeed a 8 yr old! i didnt think it lasted that long!!

like you im going to try my best until 6 months, when bump needs weaning onto food and then i think will go onto formula, in time for me to return to work,

if i dont succeed with breastfeeding im not going to kick my self as formula is there to fall back on, i really want to be a good mum n breastfeed tho, but never to that age!!!

xxx

OMG, def a up to a year or so if you can and only it works for you and baby, then they can have cows milk and need their independence , erghhh 10 year olds! That's like me havng only just finished feeding my 11 year old who is starting senior school after the holidays! and still feeding my 9 and 8 year olds! ergghhh what a thought.

I have always bottle fed, and gonna try breastfeeding this time hopefully!

It's absolute madness what some mothers do. xx

oh god hun - I agree - just saying what it said on the programme - I was amazed that the EU expect you to breastfeed up to 4yrs! xx

i think the recommended length is up to a year but it always varies x

I kbow someone who bf her sons up to 4or5! My mum fed my sister til she was about 19 months! I personally see nothing wrong with feeding your child for as long as you and they feel comfortable! Ok so 10 is a bit extreme! I fed katie up to 5 months when my milk dries up cos I was pg, but couldn't hack it 2nd time and only fed ella for a couple of days! I would have loved to have tandem fed! Breastfeeding is the most natural thing in the world and I know it isn't always possible, but we shouldn't frown upon people that chose yo do it for longer!

oh gosh - i agree - but when you get to 4yrs plus in my opinion i think that is rather long... many countries advise to breastfeed up to 4yrs - just interesting to see everyones opinions on it :) xx

i'm just watching it now. and i'm sorry but i find it sssoooo weird
