Extending feeds

It was something I got from the hospital about feeding - a leaflet type thing.

I don't know what the rules exactly but as you say every baby is different so its not like everything they say is gospel - all I was saying is it worked for me and I have read quite a few mums on here before who give a small amount of water and I went ahead with the ok from hv so I did do the right thing.

On the side of the tub of my milk it says inbetween feeds can offer cooled boiled water ill post the pic up it isn't the clearest but I'm sure it'll be on the website xxx

tapatalking :) - can't see tickers!

Says down the bottom

"If necessary offer cooled boiled water between feeds. Do not head in microwave hotspots may occur and cause scalding.

That's a tub that I bought last week.

I'm not saying that applies for everyone - but on my C&G stage 1 and on my comfort milk it said the same yet the comfort milk is supposed to help constipation aswell so if it was too much for babies bowels it wouldn't say it on the comfort box.

Check your tin newbie - it may say or check the website failing that ask your hv.. :) xxxx

I agree with the girls, I wouldn't give water at that age unless constipated, particularly not to extend feeds. At 8 weeks I'd feed on demand xx

Russell and newbie, do what you thinks best for your babies girls. Everyone and every baby is different, a hv wouldn't say it was on to have 1-2 oz a day if it was dangerouse Xxxx

That's why I had said if she wasn't sure to check with HV - I was just saying what worked for me and what the box advises.

I wouldn't expect anyone to just follow everyones advice on PF - should always check if ur not sure? Xxxx

Only if constipated but my hv said it was fine hun xx

Was advised by my gp (who has 2 kids) that giving 1-2oz of cooled boiled water is fine for ff babies as it keeps everything moving. I find advice in leaflets and books can be really dead set to sticking to guide lines, id say speak to your hv or gp as they can advise you based on you and your lo's particular needs.

My lo wont take water at all she drinks it then 5 mins later spits it back at me cos its not milk. So u never know your lo might not even take the water and all this was for nothing :p

Funny comment that little babies have no routine. Mine does and I know a lot of girls on the forum who's babies have a routine

Trouble is one hv says one thing and others say different....!

Newbie - my hv and mw both told me that i could give up to 2oz of cooled boiled water a day as long as it wasnt stopping baby taking their milk when it was time for that.

My hv also said to start giving water from a 'tippy' cup at 4 months to begin to introduce it. Obviously your not at this stage yet but good to know.

I think if its on the tin as russell pic shows then it cant be specific to one baby? Although i dont think it says so on my aptamil tub?

Newbie only asked for advice and this has been given.

Xxxx

I find I only need 1-2oz it settles him then he's back to his routine with milk only.

Obv if he woke again and was still wanting the food I'd give him it .. I've only needed it a couple times though.

How are you keeping ? All well from your traumatic labour :( ? Xxxx

They do but if its fine for constipation its fine to go into the body in general. I had a constipated baby for a month and she had water everyday because of it and she's fine.

My baby had it for constipation too, that's not the subject of the thread though - its 'extending feeds'.

No need for everyone to be defensive, just some mums offering their opinions on it.

Feeding water was what we were talking about and is it safe so yes it was on subject. Nobody is being defensive but it isn't bad for them if you are giving the very tiny amount that doctors and hv's say is ok

I wasn't being definsive its just I was explaining that it was fine for me to do as I have been guided. I appreciate everyone is different and has different views on it. Were only human after all lol xxx

No the OP wants to give water to extend feeding times. No one disagrees that for constipation it's fine??
