So my 3 year old appears to have croup again, last time the doctor gave her steroids for it. This time we went to the doctors and she said she wasn't sure, and neither was I to be honest because she wasn't bad at all.

Her granny dropped her off and she's taken a turn and it's really bad. We have given her paracetamol and her dad is lying in bed with her, her breathing is noisy, the cough is that terrible seal like sound and when she cries it's obviously worse.

I know it's something that gets worse at night, should we ride it out?

Opinions appreciated X

If in doubt I'd call them see what they say. They do usually say any breathing problems in under 5s should be checked. Have u tried going in the bathroom with shower and hot taps on. Get it steamy see if that helps. My little boy dosent have croup but does get chest and that always helps clear it :) xx

I'd call 111 now, much easier to find an OOH at this time if they think you need to.

X

She's sleeping and it seems to have improved, think she just got worked up and it sounded worse. She's in our bed so will be keeping a very close eye on her.

Carnet we are really lucky, we have 2 OOH within 10 mins of us and one is yorkhill children's hospital so can jump in the car if we need to x

Croup is not fun. I'm glad she has managed to get the sleep, poor thing :-)

My 1 year old has it too, we waited for it to clear itself up as it wasn't too bad - he was drinking loads and was eating a fair amount so we kept him dosed. He worsened today, coughing more regularly, very out of sorts and gasping every time he cried. We went down to A&E this afternoon (it's the only place locally that can give the steroids), he's had it for 3 days and should be improving, not getting worse! I would give her ibuprofen in tandem with paracetamol as it'll help reduce the swelling in her throat and I'd take her to the OOH in the morning.

Well we had to go, she woke up and I got a fright, she was so distressed and her breathing was terrible as was her cough. So called NHS 24 and off to OOH we go. She got steroids and some home with her so I'm hoping she will improve. She's sleeping in with me tonight just incase x

Much better so the steroids have helped her cough and breathing. She's still not well and knackered but hopefully should be on the mend tomorrow x
