Contraception...hmph :(

very true!!

could they do a quick smear test ofr you while doing the coil? Kill 2 birds with 1 stone!

oh I don't know, I'm having to go to the family planning clinic rather than my gp, would they do it there normally?

I had it done at a family planning clinic once just cos they had evening appointments and i didnt have to miss work. i literally only went to get the smear test done. but in wales theres a central system for it and you just take your letter with a code on it so your results get updated wherever you get the test.

i had the implant in for the full 3 years and never had a problem my periods was all over the place but i didnt mind that didnt gain any weight and got pregnant as soon as i had it out :)

:yay: I'm 'with coil'! haha. Unfortunately af arrived about 2 hours before my appointment  but I went along and the doctor said she didn't mind as long as I didn't and that meant she was 100% happy I wasn't pregnant! She asked if my smear test was up to date so said she'd try and do one if it wasn't too bad in there. She managed to take the test but isn't sure if it'll need to be done again as it may be too contaminated. It was probably one of the most comfortable smear tests I've ever had done, and I've had loads! So anyway, she gave me an injection of local anaesthetic into my cervix and that was probably the most uncomfortable bit. After that we were just chuntering on about babies and the likes. Coil in, normal period type discomfort and speed bumps weren't my friend but really not bad! Hopefully it'll stay put and agree with me. The staff in the clinic are amazing though, I just thought it was the first nurse who was really nice, but both nurse and doctor today were lovely! Makes an undignified situation so much nicer. :)

aww well done hun!!! :yay: glad you got the smear out the way too, fingers crossed thats all theyll need.

She didn't look hopeful but there's a chance and that's good enough for me! Bit crampy today and got that really strange feeling back, like when you're first pregnant and worried you might push the baby out by sneezing or going to the loo, well it's the same!!

well at least you know its still there. How long do you have to wait to :bd:?

True :) I'm covered straight away because I had my period the day it went in, just have to wait until AF as gone and we're ready to rock and roll :) I wonder if OH will be able to feel it......

 You are funny!! No springs but it's still not entirely comfortable yet, I'm sure that'll go away soon, I hope!!

ouch, I bet that would make him jump if he felt it!! very much doubt it tho hun cos its inside your cervix and hes really not gonna get up there (no matter how well endowed he thinks he is!)

Ive decided im going for the patch :yay:

 Tiny!! I meant he might feel the threads, they hang down a fair bit away from the cervix. If he feels the T-shaped part there's a problem
So this patch, how on earth does it stay on?? I'd be scared it'd fall off in the shower or something.

gah just typed a reply and lost connection :wall:

if it falls off youve got 48hrs to put it back on and youre still protected. So if it fell off in bed you couldjust put one on in the morning and youre still fine. But they say its sticky enough to stay on when swimming, in bath and shower and saunas etc... its highly unlikely to come off. I think it will really hurt pulling it off once a week!

I was rubbish at remembering the pill everyday and packing it when we went away for the weekend so this seems like a better option for me.

hate it when that happens, technology eh!!
Sounds like a good option! It just reminded me of other medication patches, like the morphine patches, they are very sticky. Imagine you went on holiday in the sun and came back with white 'patches'

 I think Ill have to put it on my stomach on holiday, Wont be wearing bikinis in the foreseeable future!!!

Aparently its like a nictine patch!

Omg injection into your cevix !? Ack! no thanks!

My midwife keeps throwing contraception at me. But I dont want something thats gonna mess me up. I want to keep either regular periods (I was like clockwork before preg) or stops them all together, none of this here and there random bleeding.

to be honest since Morgan was born it seems my periods are all over the place. I have one every fortnight, and I had 2 in one week once. Honestly, 3 no AF days then it started up again full throttle  I used to be regular as clockwork so Im looking forward to getting on the hormonal contraception just to get some predictability back...and to save money on feminine hygeine products!!!

Kat it wasn't really that bad having the injection, apparently some doctors prefer to give a bit of anaesthetic, some don't, she did!

Once my periods started up again they were regular to the day, and almost hour again! I've been bleeding since this coil went in a week and a half ago but it's starting to lessen now.
