Hey ladies

Just wondered what form of contraception you all used after having a baby when you plan to have another fairly soon but not straight away. Hubbie and I would like our second child to be about two years after our first so we will probably start ttc when Ella is about 1 year old. That should also give me a chance to get my body back in shape in the meantime.

Before having Ella I was on the pill for about 12 years. I didn't really have any problems with it and we conceived two months after I stopped the pill. So I could go back on the pill but a) I think the advice is that you shouldn't really be on the pill for much more than 10 years and b) it can take some time when you stop taking the pill to conceive (although this wasn't a problem last time for me).

We could just use condoms but neither of us like them and I just think we will become careless about it and I don't really want the worry of becoming pregnant earlier than planned.

I don't really know what my other options are so any suggestions will be gratefully received!

Thanks xx

I would recommend the coil (the one without hormones). Really easy to out in after baba, dead easy to take out for next baba and doesn't effect your cycle. Ttc straight away. xx

Yep I'd say the coil too :) x Ive never had it fitted but a few of my friends have (as well as my mum) and they said it never meddled with their cycles, and one of my friends fell PG 2 months after having it removed xx

I got pregnant the day after it was removed (I know this as we only bd'd once that cycle!) xx

I'm certain now this is what I'll be using after bubs gets here! x Just incase OH and I decide we want more in a few years :) A lot of ladies seem to recommend it x

I had no problems with it, can't recommend it enough x

Ive just gone back on the pill, i never really considered the coil or implant, although these were both offered to me at my 6 week post natal check up, and also like you, we dont want to use condoms. The other ladies seem to have had good experiences with the coil hun xxx

ive gone back on the pill, i was on cerazette before & now on microgynon (only changed cos i was classed as obese b4 and now im just overweight) and planning about 2 yrs between them, but it took me 13 months for it to get out of my cycle & fall pg so im not holding my breath,

iv had the coil in b4 (the one with hormones) and only problem was i could feel the stringy wire thingys, but didnt have any bleeding with it in at all,

i like the control the pill gave me to stop taking it when ever i want and not have to go to the docs to get it taken out, but thats just me :-)

good luck in ttc baby 2!! :-)

xxx

I was struggling thinking about a ideal contraceptive too, as after this one I wana wait at least 5 years. I thought about the coil but I know 2 people my auntie and mom's friend had it and it made them really ill so I think I'll pass the coil, but I don't fancy the implant or the injection either. And atm I'm too over weight for the patch as I have been on that before and it was excellent. So pill after the baby, get my ass down the gym and fit for the patch I think :) well that's my plan haha x

I got sterilized when I had my section so we are not using anything - allthough it's not a guarentee as with all contraception.

I would say I would stay away from the progesterone style injection you can have every 12 weeks, my periods stopped while using it and then it took me nearly a year to fall pregnant after coming off of it. (I only had 4 injections in total too)

Great you are planning ahead already, two years is a lovely gap

I had the implant after Alfie, I dont bleed with it, so im one of the lucky ones xx

After reading this thread I might also give the coil a try, had been a bit confused as to what to do as I have been told I am not allowed to go back on the pill because I had pre eclampsia.

^^^ really? I had preeclampsia and Im on the patch (same hormones) but I only got the prescription after my BP went back to normal and I was off the labetalol.
