Usually I don't drink coffee at all however as the last few weeks that is all I really want to drink, but a bit scared as I have read how this can be bad for the baby whilst pregnant, I have been trying to keep it down to one cappucino per day but still worrying me any ideas on this?

i dont think you need to worry about a cap a day :D

Thanks hope not as I am just sitting watching Eastenders with one!!lol

I've been reading up on caffeine as i typically drink a lot of coffee and although i have decided to disregard the data on the effects on conception, i think that during pregnancy i will be cutting it out altogether.

The risk of stillbirth doubles (apparently) if you have a high intake and then the other issues include insomnia, increased heartrate, raised blood pressure, restricted blood flow, anaemia - and that is just baba.

Nothing seems to be 100% proven though - just statistics based on small groups of pregnant women.

I found this on the NHS website: -

Caffeine
Limit the amount of caffeine you drink each day. Caffeine affects the way your body absorbs iron, which is very important for your baby's development. High levels of caffeine can result in a baby having a low birth weight or even miscarriage.
Caffeine occurs naturally in a range of foods, such as coffee, tea and chocolate. It's also added to some soft drinks and energy drinks.
It's important not to have more than 200mg of caffeine a day, which is roughly equivalent to:
  • two mugs of instant coffee,
  • one mug of filter coffee,
  • two mugs of tea,
  • five cans of regular cola, or
  • four (50g) bars of plain chocolate (milk chocolate has less caffeine in it than in dark chocolate).
I have switched to decaffe tea and it tastes the same xxx

my midwife told me to 2 caffinatated drinks a day somethinglike 40mg daily allowance she said increases chance miscarriage xx

well my craving this time and last time was a cold can of cola and my las pregnancy was fine also I have been drinking decafinated coffee everyday and the doctor who i am under because said that this is fine I think that there are so many rules and regulations out ther that make us all worry far to much when it comes to pregnancy xx

Think I might stop and just stick to my one cuppa tea in the morning before work. In a day I only drink one cuppa tea and one coffee so thats really all as I dont eat alot of chocolate and never drink coke at all. Don,t wanna take any chances. Just hope its not too late x

i really enjoy diet coke but ive been drinking loads of water with ice cubes aswell x

yeah im having loads of ice cold water with loads of ice cubes too it is so refreshing but so is soda water and lime with loads of ice cubes, I honestly wouldnt worry about the caffeine issuce there are loads of people out there dont know they are pregnant til the baby is coming!!!! and im sure they have more than caffeine that they arent supposed too xx

I was getting really bad headaches all the time and realised it was down to caffeine withdrawal (yes, I was that bad before!!), so now I have about 3 cups a day, spread out, and then decaf in between :) No headaches, whoop!
My midwife said that was fine, and better than me constantly feeling ill and popping paracetamol.

Yes I have been looking up on net and about 3 cups a day is grand, so possibly I will have the odd sneeky one here and there!! Think there is too many scare stories out there when your pregnant x

I usually dont drink coffee at all as it upsets my IBS but at the minute I just love the taste and smell!! Also I normally dont like ice cream but I cannot get enough especially Turkish Delight favour!!

Ooo nooo I hate turkish delight.... As for ice cream though ;) can't get enough of it!!

I gave it up second time round in TTC just incase, and got used to caffine free, but later in Tri 1 found myself desperately trying to keep awake at my desk in the afternoons, so went back to 1x caffine tea for emergency wake up, and if I have a meeting first thing and need to get the brain in gear, as that seems the only difference and like xxbeckyxx , no wthdrawal headaches at the weekend after a week at work is great, I shall be keeping this up after pregnancy , much better for you

yeah I LOVE coffee the smell and the taste but i have realised it is making me sick:( so not good I still drink it though xx

I'm having a latte first thing, but not having any more during the day. I would get headaches if I cut it out all together (sad I know), and it's one of the few drinks that I still really enjoy. I was sure I was going to go off it, as it's the first thing I go off when I'm ill, but so pleased I've been able to continue. Discovered decaf filter coffee which is actually really nice, so if I feel the need for another coffee during the day I'll have one of those - or sometimes make do with a hot chocolate (but since becoming pregnant I can take or leave chocolate - what's going on there?! OH started eating my easter egg the other day because he was so frustrated that it was still there!!)
