Chellies TTC with infertility diary

Thanks everyone, got home last night about 7.30 and was still feeling really woozy and being sick from the anaesthetic/morphine but it was so great to get in my own bed.

They removed 3 cysts, one on left ovary, one on left fallopian tube and one on right ovary..

feel a bit sore and briuised but otherwise OK. we've finally been put on the NHS IVF waiting list as my consultant had forgotton to do it after our previous appointments, but he says its a 2 year list so we are definatley gonna try and go private if we can afford it.

just gotta heal now.

Take care sweety! I hope 2008 is your year!!

Hope you feel better soon and make a speedy recovery

Glad to hear it went well.  Make sure you get plenty of rest to help the healing.

Glad all went well for you

Fingers crossed you conceive without need for IVF

Hi chellieboo, Hope your feeling better now after surgery. Hope the waiting time isn't as long as they've told you as you would be surprised at the amount of people that drop off the waiting list! so my fingers are crossed for you.

Do you know yet where they have referred you to. We were transfered to a private clinic for our NHS treatment. Costs depend on the clinics and the drugs you will need, but for another cycle for me it would have cost around £6,000.

If you are going down the NHS route then save some money for freezing eggs if you require that for future as you will need to pay yearly for that and also if you have the option to go blastocyst our cost was £500 and our payment was required before treatment started.

We didn't have savings and didn't know all the options until we went for our first appointment at IVF Clinic. We did pay for blastocyst as it raises your chances to 50%.

Good Luck babes I'm

Thanks for the well-wishes everyone.

hey Jollypops thanks for the info. we've been referred to Bourn Hall.

I've been trying to find out about the criteria for our NHS go in terms of exactly what is paid for, exactly how long the wait is and whether if we go private in the meantime it makes uneligible for NHS treatment. So far I've phoned the local PCT who just said they follow national criteria (whatever that is) and Bourn Hall who say they don't know. Gonna try contacting the hospital next to see if they know.

I'm feeling a lot better now than I was, but still in some discomfort. Off to the GPs tomorrow as my boss wants me OK'd before I go back to work.

We've been saving for a while now since we found out we'd probably need IVF so reckon we probably have enough to pay the extra for blastocysts (definately worth it by the sounds of it) and perhaps enough to pay for frozen storage depending on how much that is.

Glad to hear your doing ok.
I'm gona have a look for all my paper work in the study so bare with me! I started my own business last year as well as working full time so its abit of a mess to say the least. :wall: Then i should be able to give you more info.

The NHS pay for one cycle (In Essex!) in some counties they pay for upto three cycles. The cycle includes drugs, appointments, scans, egg collection and egg transfer and one councelling session.

The only thing I would say is i believe (95% sure) that if we had paid for the first round then we would not have got the free nhs treatment.

If you ever wona talk you can always PM me.

Take Care

http://www.bourn-hall.co.uk/fees.php?navid=fees

You've probly already looked at their website and looks to me as if they charge about £800 for blastocysts and £200 per year for freezing eggs (1st year free!).

OVERALL BOURN HALL CLINICAL PREGNANCY RATES FOR 2006
Age ≤ 37 Age ≥ 38
Standard Embryo Transfer 38% 24%
Blastocyst Transfer 54% 49%

As you can see from the info taken from their website its def worth the extra £800 to go blast as your chances are greater

Hi Chellie

Glad to hear you're starting to feel better.

In birmingham we get 1 attempt with the NHS, we dont forfeit this if we go private as long as we only have 2 private attempts. I thought this was the norm apart from the lucky areas that get 3 NHS attempts!

Blastocysts do increase your chances, but it is also risky going with this option. They will only usually go for blasts if you have a decent number of eggs as there is a higher chance of losing them all. Every clinic has different opinions and ways of working, but mine do prefer to get the best 2 embryos back in early on as the enviroment is better for them than any laboratory. People get BFP's with poor embryros and others dont even though they have a perect embryo, so its something you need to be really really sure of.

Sorry if this sounds like a lecture!!!   It wasn't meant to be...it just sounds like the best option when you look at the statistics but there are the negatives too.

Thanks for the info Jollypops/Shell.

i reckon as this will our first cycle we'll probably just go with whatever the consultant suggests. after all surely they should know whats gonna give us the best chance.

Just want to get started now.

Just been given our next dates at the fertility clinic....25th feb. more tests and consultations.

To be honest I just can't wait to get all the tests etc over and done with and actually be able to look to starting treatment.

am excited that we have the next date for us to work towards though

Woo Hoo!!! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Great news.......at least its a step closer.
