we are just starting to look at nursery furniture and i would like to know your thoughts on changing units. are they worth it? the reason i ask is because i dont think either of my sister in laws used them despite having one, they found it easier to just do it on a mat on the floor. what are your thoughts?

After having a section mine was a godsend. I still use it now but she's getting a bit long for it.

I wouldn't be without mine :) I had one on loan with my daughter with I used till she was well over 1  So with the twins I had to have one, worth their weight in gold, everything you need vest, muslins, bibs etc all kept nicely up together and tidy and no having to hurt your back on the floor.

I regret not getting one, I have a cot top changer but the changing stations with the baths would have been really handy for me!

I bought a changing table from Ikea and it cost £25. I bought it after getting fed up of changing him on the floor! Its basic but sturdy and like the other girls i wouldnt be without it!

I don't have a changing table. I just change him on the floor on a changing mat and this works fine for me. I think it depends on what works for you. xx

I defo wouldn't be without ours. So handy, everything in one place within reach and after a csection if I'd have been on the floor to change him I defo wouldn't have gotten up again lol xx

I don't have one, I have a cot top changer. If I had the space I definately would have got one x

I like having just a mat on the floor tbh, mainly because Lizzie is so wriggly now and I have had a few near misses where she's tried to escape off things lol!
Also I like to give her nappy-free time at least once a day and I can lay her bottom half on the changing mat with a muslin underneath her and gym above her to play with and it gives me a good half an hour to have my coffee and toast!

i have one and wouldnt do without it! but we got two deep bookcases and screwed them together to make a unit. Has given us the top bit for the mat wipes and nappies and then several shelves underneath whicha re stocked up with eveeruthing. Also means when he gets to big for it we can take it apart and we have 2 book cases! :D

I used a table with the changing mat on! I have a fabric box for nappies and the wipes and bags sit on table!
But if I hadn't already had the table I definately would have got a changing table!
XxX

I didn't buy one at first but ended up getting a cheap one from kiddicare when ds was a couple of weeks old. I found I got a sore back changing him on the bed\floor and found it annoying to keep moving all the supplies (we had a small flat). Actually I'm still using it and he is nearly a year old now! Instead of keeping his toiletries on the shelves, I have all his toys now that he stands up and reaches everything,

I definitely recommend one!

Absolute waste of money - unless you get a section

We kept a box thingy in the living room (hidden at side of couch), and the changing mat, everything we needed was right there. Dont have any room for one of those big things anyway. Plus it means having to take baby into room its in, for example if your feeding in livingroom you'd have to go up stairs or whatever to change baby in bedroom when you could just pull out a mat.

Also, you can only use them til baby starts to roll over

:)

I'm a sit on the fence on these! After manageing 3 kids just fine without one, I really fancied one this time.
We actually had it in the utility stored until Devon was about 3 months old so didn't use t to start with, as had no bedroom/nursery in the end for him. We used a changing mat on our high chest of drawers in the bedroom and a basket of the bum stuff on the top. Then downstairs we had a mat that we used to slide under the long coffee table to store and you didn't have it lying about then. We now found a place for the changing table in the lounge, (gift from my sister , her old one, lovely one tho), mainly because I need to keep it till my best mate falls pregnant. We have no room in the bedroom to store all the stuff on, so we use it to fill with everything that won't fit upstairs..

In hindsight, yes I would get one again, and yes handy after a section, saves your back, although if you have other kids, mat on the floor is good , saving you standing there watching for safety

Try not to buy full price, ebay has some lovely ones

We loved our changing table. Ours was kept upstairs though as had drawers under it. Downstairs we used a mat on the floor but i have to say changing so many nappies a day i wish we had a smaller unit downstairs aswell as the back pain i got at times made me so uncomfy (i have problems with my back anyway)

Like others have said already was a god send and would defo say sooo worth the money! :)

The dresser my sister bought us has enough room on the top for a changing pad. We love it! I have yet to change a diaper anywhere else while at home.

Never used one or needed one and i had a section i just changed her on my bed on a mat and as shes got older i do the same or just sit on the floor with her as she rolls constantly x

i would have liked one but i bought a cot top changer and its been perfect as i only change him in the night using it. I got a organiser from wilko for about £10 which holds nappies, wipes cream and it sits on the chest of drawers all to hand!!

Never had one and I wouldn't bother personally. Nice if you just want one but in no way essential x
