my mum wanted to buy me one, (high changing table), and i said no because it wasn't advised - babies can fall etc... but i will never leave my baby unsupervised so should i just go for it? is it worth it? i was looking to change him on the changing matt, on the bed. what do you think?

I have a changing table and I hardly ever use it - even at birth I used to change Arianna on my knee.

My one is attached to drawers for her clothing etc and more times than not it just ends up with her dirty washing sitting on top of the changer

I wouldn't be without mine. After three kids I don't think my back could have survived changing on a bed or the floor.

Who on earth would leave the child on a table unsupervised anyway??

I've got one and I wouldn't be without it. I use it at least 8 times a day for changing nappies, dressing him, top to tails washing, drying after his bath. I wasn't going to get one but I'm so glad I did. Mine has baskets underneath with all the stuff I need so I don't have to leave him alone, but like you said you wouldn't anyway. Also if you do it on your bed you run the risk of peeing accidents, which I've had happen quite a few times!

Out of curiosity, how do you change a poopy nappy on your knee??

Easy actually!! My mum always changed nappies on her knee so I have continued it!!

Have them lying sidy-ways on your knee undo the nappy, lift there legs and wipe all the yuky stuff away. Put on the bum cream and new nappy - and in the style of Gordon Ramsey on the F Word "Nappy change on knee - DONE!!"
:rotfl:

There's one in Ikea that is near enough a chest of drawers and folds out to be a changing unit but doesn't have to be if you don't fold it out it can just be a normal chest of drawers. We haven't got one but if I start to struggle we'll probably get a cot-top changer as they're only £20 ish.

Our one is from Ikea...

I haven't seen one like that before, with the baby facing sideways. I'd struggle with that I think.
It's probably just habit but I need the baby facing lengthways.......

The lid is folded over it - you take the lid down (with the purple box on it) and turn the changing mat

I change Isaac on our IKEA poofee
He's getting too big for it now though and I would LOVE a changing table but no room in our 1bed flat :x
I'd say get one, better to have than have not, and LO's usually sometimes cause a bad back so better to have a table :D

thought it was odd!

im not gonna bother with one be waste of money. gonna use changing mat and table or the floor to change the baby :)

i had a chest of drawers for Jam til he was a couple of mths then when he started rolling I changed him on the floor and still do!

I wouldn't be without mine.

With B & T the constant bending over & kneeling down was a killer on my knees & back.

Yes,babies can roll after a few months but the logical answer is don't leave them there, you should have everything that you need in the unit anyway :D

I don't have one but I wish I did! My back is already aching after only a week of changing nappies! I'm seriously considering getting one which fits on the top of the cot bed.

Ive bought one for the new house and partly for storage and so i dont damage my back getting off the floor etc. Though i hacve been changing my 3 yr old on the bed since he was born

ooh i love my changing table and wouldnt be without it i change willow on it dress her on it etc its a god send.

I change Libby sideways, I have a changing mat on top of her chest of drawers, it fits perfectly, and is in front of the window so I use the window sill to store everything I need, and I have all her clothes on hand too to get her changed :D
