So my first baby was an undiagnosed breech. They found out when I was 4cm. They tried to get me in for a CS but she came too quick.
I'm delighted I had a natural birth with just gas and air, all 8lb12 of her, I loved labour!!

Anyways does anyone know if it's any more likely that this one will be breech???

Either way it won't bother me as I will certainly not be having a CS if it's the same type if breech (bum first) but I may have a fight on my hands.

Anyone have any experiences of this??

Hey didn't want to read and run. I had a breech, always was breech so I had to have a planned c section. I was told my lo was in that position cos of the shape of my womb. She just got stuck there. I was told theres every chance I could have a breech again, but thats just my situation. Good on you having a natural breech birth, sounds like u did amazing! Id love a natural birth next time, fx.

good luck xx

Your situation sounds very much like mine! I was told my son was head down, but found out at 6cms he wasn't. Didn't have a section either.
I have asked why it happened and I've just been told it's one of those things. I'm going to request at least one presentation scan this time.

How is your little ones hips? Unfortunately my son has hip dysplasia, caused by being breech. He's had surgery and a cast for 3 months and were on 6 monthly check ups, but things seem to be progressing.

I may ask for a presentation scan also, just so the hospital can be more prepared...it was all a bit of an emergency which turned out perfect but I think I was just lucky as she was 8lb 12. How much did your LO weigh?

Aww poor wee thing!!!!
Her hips were fine thank god, she was like a wee frog for about 1-2 weeks after the birth, they were bent and up at her chest, then when one dropped of looked really odd lol.

She was slow to put weight on her legs, I noticed all the baby's in my mum and baby group were all standing on mums knees when being held in that position if you know what I mean and my DD wouldn't put any weight on them at all, just as they were about to start doing tests she started doing it.

I was told I was lucky as she was obviously breech the whole way through then the pressure of her being delivered and the fact that she was so big and squished in my tummy. Xx

8lb 8oz, so a similar size.
So has she not had a hip ultrasound at all? All breech babies should have one. My son passed all of his manual hip checks, but only an ultrasound will check angles, and shallow hips. I don't mean to worry you or anything, lots of breech babies don't have problems, but she may be quite mobile, even with bad hips.

No no sorry she had an ultrasound at 6 weeks on her hips which confirmed that they were fine.

In my area they automatically do this is the baby was breech whether delivered naturally of CS.

I've never had a breech baby and I'm on no 3. But this one is in breech/transverse position at moment so I'm currently trying to find all info on breech babies just incase!
Can they let you labour naturally? When do they give the baby till to turn, 36,37,38 weeks etc? I do hope he turns as he's my last baby but wanting to cover all areas just incase he's a stubborn lil guy.
Sorry I'm not much use for advice.x

I think if the baby is transverse then they won't allow you to deliver.
My DD was as I said undiagnosed however she was in the best type of position for breech which is bum first.

I didnt get the option to turn her but they may give you that.

How many weeks are you??

It depends on your hospital whether they will allow you to try for a natural delivery, generally hospitals now don't have loads of experience in it so always say that a C section is the best/safest option.

I would advise you to speak with the midwife/consultant and ask about it.

If baby is bum down and in a good breech position then I would push for a natural delivery (personally). However I can say this with the hindsight that I have delivered one already lol. Xx

Ah I see, I thought when you said that they didn't do tests, that she hadn't had any at all. Glad she got the all clear :)

So yeah, as far as I am aware, having a breech baby doesn't increases your chances of having another, I think you just have the same chances.

I was told that babies can even turn in labour, so I would assume that they will let you go into labour naturally, and keep any eye on babies position with scans. If it does turn out it's still transverse, you'll need a section.
I agree with Starlight1986 too, that if it so happens to be frank breech (bum first) then push for a vaginal delivery. You don't want the receoery of a section, if you don't need to.

I think they can turn back to back etc but don't think they can flip from breech to head down as they are normally engaged either way.

Generally when you labour with a breech baby the doctors can tell if you will be able to have a successful delivery by measuring several factors.
One of them is that if you stop dilating or labour is really slow then that is an indicator that the baby won't fit.

You would also get a growth scan if you push for a natural as the baby's weight is an issue, this may differ in certain hospitals but in mine of the baby is over 8lb 3 they will not let you even try for a natural delivery. My DD was 8lb12 and I was fine but it's something they consider. X

Thanks for the info ladies. I'm 32 + 3. I'm due a growth scan at 34 weeks so im hoping they will tell me he's moved position. I went for growth scans at 36 and 38 weeks with my daughter but on last appointment with consultant he said will see how things attend are at 34 weeks and then decide if I'm getting more growth scans which is fine with me. At my 28 week growth scan he was very much transverse but had his head towards my pelvis as the woman doing the scan had to get me onto my side to try measure his head so im hoping he's going in the right direction but after my visit to labour ward due to sudden swelling the midwife confirmed he was breech/transverse.
I've always had head down babies even though my 2nd didn't engage till my waters where broken she was still head down. So this is all new to me.
Is it not a harder labour delivering bum 1st? I'm intrigued !

I know some women have repeat breech babies due to the shape of their womb but sometimes it's just baby being stubborn x

I don't have anything to compare it with, but I can tell you by the end of February if this baby is head down lol :)

My DD was out in 2-3 proper pushes so I didn't find it hard at all. I only had gas and air so would imagine it could be difficult if you had an epidural because you don't have the urge to push. I was starting to push at about 8cms because the urge was so intense, I remember the midwife screaming at me not to push because noone was there to deliver her (was a very busy night), after about 5mins I was 10cm away ways and the head of gynaecology ran down to deliver her.
It was all very fast but basically I was transferred to a different bed with stirrups, my bladder was emptied with a catheter and then was told to push away.
For some reason I was telling her not to cut me and she said she wouldn't unless she had to, she didn't.

I did bleed quite heavily and getting placenta out was a bit of a nightmare but I don't think that's connected to a breech birth.

You can google breech birth delivery and see how the baby comes out, I find it amazing how any baby comes out never mind a breech one lol x
