Does anyone have any tips for stopping my 3 cats venturing up the Christmas tree this year?! We'll be shutting them downstairs at night as otherwise they'll be in the moses baskets with the babies

However last year we'd get up in the morning and the tree would be on the floor and baubles would be everywhere - even the chocolate trimmings would have nibble marks in them

I can't really think of anything we can do, we've tried spray and telling them off when we're in the room but at night they will have free roam downstairs.

Am tempted to keep the tree upstairs but it is a shame not having it in our living room.

Suggestions welcome :)

I just let them. I don't put chocolate decs on the tree.

First year we had a mini tree, which our cat repeatedly felled. Last year they used to climb inside it, pull the baubles off the tree and chase them, and in the case of my older cat... fall in love with it and sit for endless hours cuddling the branches.

why not try supporting the tree and tying it to the wall or something so they cant pull it down as i think you will struggle shutting them out, they are slippery little buggers cats!

as for your baubles, short of kicking them out at nigght there doesnt seem to be a fair way to keep them off it

i used to have cats and one xmas my cat had recently had a litter of 6 and these kittens were about 7 weeks old and scrambling about everywhere! when i woke up i had kittens hanging off my tree like fucking decorations! try containing 6 skitty little kittens lol

I have 4 cats and worry every year they are going to trash my tree but so far they havent! I usually get my tree up about a week before i decorate it so that *if* they are going to fly up it etc then hopefully theyll do it while its naked rather than when its all beautiful!
You could try a citrus type plug in close to the tree - they have citrussy smells so might not want to get so close to the tree

My cat has Pica and likes to eat wires!! He looks at our xmas tree lights like an all you can eat buffet!!

He is shut in the hallway if we cant supervise him otherwise he'll electrocute himself!

As well as wires he also likes to try and eat razor blades and soap!!

I wrap tinsel around the base of my tree. It stops my 2 cats running up the tree as they don't like the feel of skiing over the tinsel. Xx

There is some spray you can buy from most pet shops and it helps to stop cats scratching climbing and peeing on the area sprayed. its also prevents other things, when i had 4 kittens (4 months old) and mummy and daddy cat they use to climb the tree and knock it over all of it, we brought the spray and tryed it, it worked but every other day we had to respray.
it just doesnt work at the bottom though. x x x

OMG, I could read about your cat all day - what an unusual little creature he is!

Bless him.
