Can't decide re "Mark"?

Currently undecided about "Mark" as my 2nd son's name. I want something classic, short (I don't like people shortening names), and hopefully the only one in his class (I hate that there are 3 of my son's name in his nursery, but don't want the name to be so "unique" that it's considered naff/embarrasing/no wonder no-one else chose it etc...)

So kind of decided on Mark, but now uncertain, as it is just too "boring"? But then I think when he grows up he'll want a solid, "normal" name, and if he introduces himself at a meeting or interview in later life he'll want a strong, traditional name etc.

Less than 1 in 1000 babies are called Mark now, maybe because it was over-used 30/40/50 yrs ago? Does it strike you as "1970's"? But then I guess it doesn't matter what it means to me in a way, as he'll be mingling with his generation and there'll be hardly any Mark's I guess.

I just don't know, any thoughts...? Thanks.

Nothing wrong with Mark at all!! I looked after a Mark once and he was very cute!! :)

I don't know anyone called Mark and think it is a nice, classic name x

How about Marc? Ever so slightly different?

We know two Mark/c's, so can't have it, but would probably be on the list otherwise.

As someone who is in their 30's (born in the 1970's yes) i know a lot of Marks. In fact I dislike a lot of Mark's. Yet to meet one i like.

However, I think having a nice biblical name in the middle is a good idea, it would be a good middle name. But feel completely free to ignore me, I am just of the current Mark generation (and Steve, for some reason i know tons of tools called Steve!)

Sounds like you've met my Cousin and my ex there....

I know a Marc and he's lovely. Marcus always nice too?

Lxx

Hmmmm its not a fav name of mine its a bit of a plain/safe name to me but if you like it go with it...were all going to have dif opinions so only yours counts really xx

I really like it but my hubby is Mark so I'm maybe a bit biased

Mark was hugely popular when i was a baby back some 25 years ago - there was two in my primary school class and i must have known another 8 or so at one point or another before i was an adult.

I think it's alright as a name. Plain, but solid.

I think anyone who wants to use it now goes for Marcus, but would be shortened imo to Marc :)

I only know one Mark and he is 12 , and I also used to fancy a bloke called Marcel, he was lovely!

Good name Hun X

Oh My first has a traditional name in the middle Daniel, which I never really went for before having kids, and he loves it, his first name was Rhys, which I thought was unusual at the time, and now he knows loads his age!), mind you there are loads of Daniels too, so go with your heart.

Keep looking for names and then if Mark still sticks at the top by the time baby is due, then you will know it's right
