Hi ladies

Not sure about teh whole process and my GP is not supportive so trying to figure it all out by myself

Do I book straight in with a fertility clinic or specialist, or do I need a GP referral?

Is anything covered by NHS or private health insurance?

I want to start with blood tests I think

Ta

Not sure if it varys in area but were i am you have to have been trying to conceive for 2 years or 3 misscarriages before being transfered to gyne department where they would then do investigations on your and your partner, once the results are back then the options are given to you and a referal to fertility clinic.

If you wanted to go completely private then clinics do the investigations the NHS do put of course you'll have to pay for them, once the results are back then treatment is discussed. To look for clinics in your area either google or look in your phone book then give them a call for an appointment to run through their costs, and sucess levels etc.

(Possible Investigations - Lapacospy, Hycosy, 21 day Blood Test to check ovulation levels, Sperm test)

IVF or any fertility treatment i would say should not be entered into lightly, its physically draining, very emotional, and can be expensive and treatment doesn't always work first time.

There are afew peoples diaries on here going through their ferility treatment which you might want to have a look at.

Good Luck

you may well need a GP referral of somesort even if you go privately, both the clinics in my area ask for a referral letter for an initial consultation.

can you see another GP at your practice, thats what i did?

you could try the HFEA website to find a clinic.

If you go straight to a clinic then you will have to pay for all the tests etc, whereas if you find a sympathetic GP they can sort out at least the basic tests (blood tests and sperm count) free.

In my experience private health insurance does not cover much in terms of fertility tests and tx, but you might be lucky and be with a good provider.

Thanks guys- might go back to GP again.

Am just so over this.

Have discovered I have a short luteal phase / not enough progesterone ...perhaps not enough to support a pregnancy. Getting very frustrated by it all. :wall:

Do you chart? If you dont it might be worth starting or maybe use a fertiliy monitor.
Try taking Vitamin B6 50mg per day to start with then if need be upto to max 300mg.
how long have you been trying? Don't give up hope
Good Luck

I do chart, starting temp, OPK and CM analysis a while ago.

It's been exactly a year now.... hence the sudden desire to seek help!

I fell PG in FEb and had an MC around 8-9 weeks.

I think I conceived last month (had bad cramps for 3 days about 7 days after Ov, then nothing for a few days, then got a weird clumpy AF for a day, and then a normal AF) but didn't implant properly.

I feel like everyone is just going on an getting their BFPs but me... my friends seem to have no troubles! Happy for them, but sad for me :(

I no what you mean, we had been trying for 12 years! (and IVF failed)
Dont give up hope, and try not to stress or worry out it (easier said than done), just take multi vitamins, folic acid and the vitamin B6.
Good Luck

OMG your story is identical to mine before I concieved my first. Even down to how long you have been trying and the months in which you had a m/c and suspected pregnancy. I went to The Bridge Centre in London Bridge. My GP was crap too. I just paid for a consultation and then blood tests. We spent about £200 in total but believe it was worth it. They put me on Progesterone pessaries and I conceieved the next month. I wish you the best of luck.

Please let us know what you decide!!! Spending cash and being treated like a proper person is an unbelieveable difference and puts you in a much better head space. Don't wait around for your GP to refer you if you can afford a consultation. If you google The Bridge Centre in London Bridge you should find their website. x x x

wow, thanks so much for that! can you tell me a little more... what blood tests did you have and what did they find?

Did you feel your luteal phaase was short? My cycles are so long, but luteal phase very short (9-10 days)

thanks again!

Becs - you pregnant again??? totally missed that!! congrats honey! xxx

sorry clucky hijacking your post there.

Am going to Dr tomorrow to request and talk about 21 day blood test.

Are there any other tests i should enquire about? What those tests above? I think my main issue is short luteal phase and therefore progesterone probs

Thanks

21 day blood test check your hormonal levels/checking for ovulation signs.
Has the doctor said you have short luteal phase or have you found this out from charting?
If it was the doctor ask for Progesterone pessaries as becs said in her post and what they think about you taking vitamin B6 at the same time or on its own.
Good Luck and let us know what they say

Found this:
So why does B6 work? Well, B6 is a very complex vitamin and has many actions in the body, but the most likely explanation is that B6 lowers the amount of prolactin in the system. Prolactin is a hormone that, in excess amounts, interferes with ovulation and the regularity of cycles. The majority of women that I have talked to encountered a LPD after coming off the birth control pill. Birth control pills cause a deficiency in B6, which can make your prolactin levels rise, which can in turn lead to a luteal phase defect. Supplementation with these large doses of B6 corrects the deficiency and the timing of ovulation hopefully goes back to normal.

thanks for this.
i have just noted it myself from charting.

will chat to her about all of the things you have brought up.

thanks again!

Hi hun may i suggest st marys hospital in paddington
proffesor lesley regan she is really really good i was refared to her by my gp on Nhs as going private is way to much money for me it costs a fortune for appointments not including your drugs ...

I have been trying to find a reason from my local hospital for the cause of my 8 pregnancy losses and after 12 yrs of being told nothing is wrong i was sent to
st marys by my gp and she found out i have 2 blood clotting disorders
