Caffine, nightshifts, temping, charting and ttc

Hi gals,

So, with starting clomid next cycle I'm wondering how much caffine I can have? Ive heard it can negatively effect ttc, but I've never really looked into it because ive never drank lots of caffine or evem drunk it every day, untill now.

I am on permanent nights as of now (yay me 😐😑), work in a psychiatric ward and I just cant stay awakw without caffine, so do any of you know how much I can have whilst were ttc this cycle? Don't want to start clomid and then screw up pur chances cause of thw caffine but I can't stay awake all night without it.

Ideally i want to go back to days, as these nights are really screwing me up and makin me feel ill.

Any advice? Xx

Also, howd you suggest I go about temping and charting? Never had to do it around working nights before...

Oh gosh, I've just seen all the typos, I'd go back ans change them but im currently so sleep deprived I can't work out how! Hahahah
 
Hi, I don't think you have to stop caffeine completely. Google says this


"Although researchers haven't been able to find a clear connection between moderate caffeine intake and fertility problems, it's generally considered safe to consume 200 to 300 milligrams (mg) of caffeine daily while trying to conceive. That's up to two 8-ounce cups of coffee for a weak brew."


Also you could switch to green tea. If you have it strong it is pretty caffeinated but not as much as coffee. It has 25mg caffeine per 8 ounce serving. Plus some studies suggest green tea may help TTC.


BUT I would check with whoever is prescribing your clomid that it's ok to have caffeine or green tea. Another thing that might work for keeping you awake is occasionally getting your blood moving with short burst of exercise. You can even do that sitting still - you just have to move enough (quickly) to get your heart going...there are youtube videos on exercising in a chair.


No idea about the testing. You could try testing when you wake up as you normally would and see if it works....same with temping...just same time each day.

Ive read the same. I love strong coffee and have coped by dropping my mid morning cup and then after couple of weeks have dropped my lunchtime cup leaving me only having a cup in the morning. Ive substituted my other coffee for a pint of water! I now find it ok only have one cup a day...i think the water helps too....on some level! Maybe try having smaller cups so you dont have to use so much coffee or like sunflower suggests....green tea? I feel for you as one caffeine drinker to the next x

I do actually like green tea, i have somw in the house!


Although i drink loads of water on my nights (I mean like 6 pints at least, try to have one for every caffeine drink i have) I'm drinking way to much caffine.

If I wasn't working nights, then rarely have a cofee or anything witj caffeine. But on nights i have to drink so much just to stay awake. Like last night I had A sugar free monster energy before my shigt ans then well, I dread to think how many coffes I had. It must have been at least 8 cups ��.

Have only had three tonight so far but I know im gonna have another two at least, or ill be falling asleep on thw drive home. Im not sure how to get around the tirerdness. I try to get up and move about every twenty minutes or so but as soon as i sit back down. Im practicality sleeping again.

If i was days ir would be no problem at all to habe no caffine.

Ive ordered some opks ready and Ill jist have to temp when i wake as you said ans hope it shows a ahift haha.

Ill have to cut the caffine though, hopefully ill get uswd to the lack of sleep soon ��
 
Just to add i conceived in italy in july and had been drinking 2-3 espressos a day as we werent ttc then. Sadly i ended up having a mmc several weeks later. GP didnt seem concerned id been drinking coffee and wine! When we were ttc last year, i gave up caffeine/wine and we didnt conceive so im not sure how good the evidence is anyway!

You might be so tired because it sounds like you are drinking way too much water. You are supposed to have 2 litres (4 pints) a day and def no more than 6 pints (in total - all your drinks). You're gonna be washing your system through...all the good vitamins and nutrients and everything. I was drinking 3-4 litres a day and felt really run down. Also the more pure water you drink the more you will unbalance your elecrolytes and get thirsty. Water with a tiny pinch of salt and sugar should keep you more hydrated too. You must be drinking 3 litres of water plus another 2 litres of coffee....just at night.

Don't wanna sound bossy but I've had a problem just chugging pints of water and overhydrating. It's not good for you and makes you tired. Might be you are getting into a coffee and over hydrated cycle. If you introduce some fruit juice it might help and try and drink in smaller amounts. We get told all the time to drink more water but actually too much water is really bad.
 
Oh really? I never knew that, I rhoughr because caffine dehydrates you, your meant to have a pint od water forevery caffineated drink you have. Interesting.

Really? OH drinks a few coffes a day to. Think it comes with the hours were working too. Xx
 
Apparently if you don't have a medical condition that makes you prone to dehydration - like kidney issues - then it's a myth that coffee dehydrates you.
