Just wondering as i hope to bfeed but if i cant will have to bottle feed. As im alone and dont noanyone who has a baby i looked up the gidelines how to bottle feed. It says to not store any in the fridge or to pre make them, i can see why and that would be fine in the day but at night when the baby wakes and your not ment to leave them to cry is it does it work making a bottle up and waiting for it to cool whilst the baby is getting more hungry? I think it would be harder as i will be a single parent. Do any of you do it does it work okay? X

others may disagree with me but with ds1 i used to bring the necessary amounts of cool boiled water up to bed with me already in the bottle(s) and the powder in a separate container and just mix them together when it was time to feed, he didn't mind them being room temperature.

But enough people make them and keep them in the fridge, and even zap them in the microwave. They're only guidelines after all.

yeah they are i think ill try to brst feed and if not ill try and make them up as i go x

I did what jojo did! I sterilised all the bottles and just put the water in the bottles and left them on the side! And just put the powder in and warned it up as I needed them :)

Same as above. He had them room temp until 3 months and then we zapped them in the microwave after that x

I was exclusively BFing until 7 weeks and then mixed feeding. I also sterilise and put cooled boiled water in bottles and have powder separate until the feed time.

There are so many guidelines and they change so often....you have to apply common sense

It changes all of the time and everyone does it a way that suits them.

I did the cool boiled water in sterilised bottles and add powder when needed as AJ preferred room temp bottles. My nephew preferred his warm so my sister did the same minus 2oz in the bottle. When baby needed a feed we topped the bottle up with freshly boiled water and it was perfect for him to drink.

My midwife said you can have a couple ready in the fridge but use them that day. The problem wad because of people making many days worth in advance and not rotating.

So, ladies - do you mix the powder into the cooled water? I have been boiling the kettle, leaving for half hour before mixing then allowing to cool... Takes forever! Really need a quicker solution - ESP. For night feeds!

Think you are meant to mix the powder in freshly boiled water to get rid of nasties cos the formula isn't sterile. We make them up and keep in the fridge each day then warm up in a jug of hot water when needed, hv said they can be stored for 24 hours

I always did. But then AJ loved his milk at room temp, its what way worked the best for us :) x

This is what I do, I was making them as we went but it was a nightmare if she got hungry inbetween feeds so I make them up last thing at night in keep 1 in a thermo bag in her room for her night feed. By the time she wakes its at room temp

I strugle with this too

hv said if i am making in advance that it is better to add the powder to the boiled water within the 30 mins to kill any bacteria then cool and keep in fridge, so at the moment im just makig 1 up but a hour or so before she needs it as she can feed any time from 1 to 4 hours after her last feed but iv been caught out a few times so i planning on pre making a couple at a time using the boiled water method as i can see how it might be safer but i know plenty of people who do it the other way with the cold boiled water and never had any problems, at the moment at night im using the ready made cartons, but if i start to pre make some then iil just do that for nite too

For those of you who are pre making and putting in the fridge so you feed it to Lo straight from the fridge or leave it out for half hour to be room temp? this s what has put me off pre making for nite feeds as dont want to give her very cold milk if its been kept in fridge

When we werent on comfort food we steralized put boiled water in bottles and left at room temp and added powder when needed as my LO used to take at room temp or would even put bottles in microwave or hot water to warm through. Now we are on comfort its thicker so needs to be added to boiled water so I make the bottles with formula, cool them quickly and put them in the fridge but just microwave when need or hot water during the day if out. But I know this is not classed as 'best practise' but it works for us and I always make sure I use the bottles within 12 hours! X

I make up with boiled water and put straight in the fridge, when she wants one I zap in the microwave to take the chill off. She's happy to have a room temp unless she's abit poorly then we make them warm. I've got a insulated bottle bag for nights and just pop 1/2 bottles in when they are hot and they cool down very slowly so even if she doesn't feed until 4/5am the bottle isn't cold it's a room temp

I do exactly the same. He doesn't mind at room temp. Do this with all his bottles.xx
