Hey,

I'm 26+5 and I still haven't thought about a birth plan! It's starting to panic me a little bit because I feel like I should be thinking about it now!

I have a little think in my maternity notes about birth plans and what to include. Things like pain relief options, and what you want available to you, like whether or not you want a birthing pool available, or a bean bag, or something to help prop you up on the bed... You also decide whether you'd be open to trying different positions during labour, or whether you want to lay back, kneel etc. You also choose if you'd want any kind of intervention like forceps or vacuum, or if you want an episiotomy if you need one.

They are really thorough, but they also advise you to try and be flexible.

I'm moving into a new house in a new part of the country in a couple of days and getting a new midwife. So when I go for my 28 week meeting I'm going to ask her about sorting out my birth plan!

Hope everything goes well! xx

I have a birth plan template in my notes that they gave me and pretty much its about who you want in the room what pain relief, if you want to be mobile and if you want any intervention. They also suggest you put things in like if you want the injection to help deliver the placenta and if you want the baby to have a vit k injection or drops.

It also asks about skin to skin contact and how you plan on feeding the baby.

Although you write a birth plan you do have to go in with the intention of being flexible as you never know what happens. Although i actually managed to stick to my birth plan with my daughter

I havent thought too much about it either, i pretty much want to just take things as they come. I know i i dont want an epidural and dont want to use the birthing pool (it just doesnt appeal to me at all). I want to stay as mobile as i can for as long as possible and have skin to skin if possible. I dont want to be very specific as things can change so i plan on just going with the flow and seeing how i feel at the time re pain relief.

Im open minded...I defo want skin to skin and Im gona try at breastfeeding...I dont want an epidural.....Ill just want a nice quick/stress free labour.....hahaha wishful thinking/

I dont have a birth plan yet, not sure if i'll do one as didn't have one with first. By the time the day comes you'll know exactly what you want anyway, birth plan I suppose would be useful to give mw when u go into labour, but mines asked anyway.

Oh and good luck for your scan tomoz

:)

There are some good templates on the internet, I printed off the nhs one and filled it out with my oh more so we are both on the same wave length about what we want rather than to give to mw, it really helped prepare us both just going through all the questions together

i havent thought about mine.

I think I'm going to take a look at that. The NHS one does seem really long... It's quite intimidating to have to think about every little detil, but I think I'm just going to go through it with OH and see what he thinks...

Xx

Im not doing a birth plan, i never had one with my son, i just went in with an open mind and i think that helped as i had a quite quick first labour with no stitches ect x x
