Hi mums & dads, my baby boy was induced at 37wks as he only has one kidney & up until then it had worked ok but at my 37wk scan it was dilated & showing signs of stress. Since being born we have established he has renal reflux & that the function of his one kidney is moderate. I am so scared. We are still in hospital as his blood tests r showing his levels related to kidney function aren't improving, has anyone been in a similar situation? Or know anyone who has? I just would like to talk to someone who has been thru this or something similar xxx

Me!!! Quite similar. If you look down the threads here you can read about our journey.

Cam has one functioning kidney. He has a rare condition called Posterior Urethral Valves. 1:8000 boys get it.

This means there was a stricture in his ureter causing backflow into the bladder and then back up the kidneys.

He had 5 ops last year. He is also on trimethroprim daily to keep any utis away. These could be dangerous for him.

Kids with renal failure can get very high blood pressure so he is monitored regularly. He is under nephrologists and urologists in Southampton. Ask away!!

Xx

Tapatalking :-D Can't see tickers...

Sounds very similar. Dex has renal reflux too where the flap closing his bladder from the ureter is weak & causes urine to travel back to th kidney so he is also on trimethrepin daily& under the care of a urologist at Sheffield childrens hospital. What operations has cam had then? They spoke of surgery but dex is too little & they want to see how things develop over the nxt few wks & months. Its just nice to know we're not alone. How have you dealt with it? How often have/do u c the specialists? Thank u so much for replying so quickly too. We are now home from hospital & are back to c urologist nxt wk to check dexters bloods & weight. I'm just scared & full of worry for the future xxx
