Baby eczema

Browneyed girl does anyone else have it in your family? Also with the radiators on in winter it gives out dry air which isnt good for skin, but also we bought a dehumidifier and thats also helped. My lo only has a little patch now x

No-one else in the family has it so I'm really hoping it's just one of those baby things and he'll grow out of it quite young. I totally agree about the heating making things worse, we've lent a humidifier from a friend but it's not that big so I'm not sure how effective it is - I ordered one online yesterday so hopefully that will help, it's good to know it's helping your lo. Thanks xx

We asked about steroids and thinning skin, as our LO has 1 % hydrocortisone rather than 0.5% and both consultants he's under (one respiratory and one dermatological) said the cream wouldn't thin his skin. (the respiratory is still relevant however, as he couldn't use certain creams etc to do with other medical issues) I still limit use in any case as if he doesn't need it, we wont use it, but I'm interested to hear how you get on with a humidifier aswell, we may invest yet! Hopefully your LO's eczema clears up for you as he gets older, it's not unheard of for it to settle as they age xx

Thought I would update this thread and see how you're doing Colleen. We saw a private dermatologist 10 days ago who prescribed Daktacort, it's 1% hydrocortisone ointment with anti fungal. Although we've used 1% on his body before he wanted to try this again as we'd used a cream rather than ointment and had been given wrong advice to apply on top of emollient instead of the other way round. Advice was Daktacort twice a day for 7 days and then once a day for 7 days. Unfortunately it hadn't cleared after the first 7 days so when we stepped down it really flared. Dermatologist has advised Eumovate now twice a day for 7 days. We're also using Dermol 600 in the bath and Epaderm to moisturise. Have to say I'm losing faith in Epaderm as although his skin is well moisturised (confirmed by the dermatologist) it doesn't stop or reduce flare ups so I'm wondering what the point is. Also he's still got a cold (3 1/2 weeks now!) and it looks like he's got another viral rash so it's really hard to know what's eczema and what's a rash. His poor body is worse than it's ever been but on the plus side his face is currently clear and he doesn't seem itchy. Colleen we bought scratch sleeves for when he rubs his face at night and they seem to work really well as the mittens are silk so he can't cause any damage like you can with normal scratch mittens and he also can't pull them off. Might be worth a look? How are you doing? Xx

Hi hun, yeah epiderm is helping keep him moisturised but it's the hydrocortisone that's helping the eczema, everytime I stop using hydrocortisone his skin flares up again. Ive not heard anything yet about a specialist appt yet, we recieved the letter asking if we still wanted a referral but nothing since we replied to that. Where can you buy these scratch sleeves? Ive never heard of them? xxx

Have pm'd you. It's so frustrating with the hydrocortisone isn't it? We have the same issue. How often are you applying the Epaderm? I try to do 3/4 times a day, I don't have the time for more! Hope you get your appt through soon xx

How's it going hun? We still can't get off hydrocortisone (have stepped down from Eumovate thankfully). His body is pretty clear apart from the odd patch, the main issue is under his chin which doesn't fully clear even with Eumovate! I've stopped using Epaderm as it really wasn't helping and now we use Dream Cream with hydromol on top to 'lock it in'. So far it seems to work quite well, he's full of a cold (again!) and he has only flared a little bit xx
