Hi

Just wondered if anyone had experienced eczema in their child and how they dealt with it, my lo just developed it and Im really upset about it, doc given oilatun cream/bath stuff and hydrocortisone (0.5%) cream for the really red areas.

Any advice would be appreciated, hoping to get some homeopathic creams rather than steroids.

Thx

My baby developed ezecma at 4 months and this wasaroubnd the time that I was giving him yogurts. So it all appeared rather quickly.
Im not personally into homeopathic remdies so i took the steroid cream and dipro base after the doctor and after a few days it started to clear up.
And not giving him any cow based deserts also helped.

I hardky use anything on him now and you wouldnt think he had it

can I ask how old ur baby is now? Im hoping he grows out of it too, but Ive heard a lot of negative things like steroid creams thinning the skin etc, so I dont wanna be using it for a long time!

Aimee developed eczema at 8 weeks and it was really bad till she was about 9 months when it started clearing up. It was completly gone by the time she was 12 months. I didn't like the oilatum so I was perscribed Epiderm and cetreben? and found them to be really good. I also bought one myself from Boots called I think Allergenics cream and it was fantastic. :D We did need the steriods sometimes but the other stuff usually kept it under control. Have you stopped using all shampoos and soeaps in the bath too? I couldn't use anything on Aimee till she was 9 months old. She never had that nice baby smell but it helped her eczema.

I suffer with Psoriasis so am very wary of steroid creams as yes they can thin the skin. Rowan developed excma at 3 months. I use oilatum junior bath every night (just the one capful now its settled as apposed to the 2) and moisturise either with E45 or olive oil. I've found it works well and his skin is now really clear although it does tend to flare if he is unwell.

my dd had eczemea from about 2wks - used a variety of creams - cetraben worked best for keeping it under control - but any slight flare up and i used a little of the hydorcodozone mixed with the cetreben - this usually prevented it from turning into a major flare up - she was very severe around her joints and once rubbed her wee ankles so hard they were open and bleeding (she had done it in bed and wasnt crying so i didnt know)
I took her off all her cow/dairy products at about 3mts and this def. helped - she drank wysoy milk - doc prescribed it - she is 4 now eats anything/everything - does not have a very sweet tooth and i think it was down to the wysoy - backs of her knees are now the only affected area and she knows to rub - not scratch
Also - many but not all chilren with ecz also get asthma - keeping them off dairy can prevent this - my eldest ds also had ecz and i continued to give cows milk etc - he then got asthma whereas my dd whose ecz was much worse never even had a cold :D

My 'baby' lol is nearly 3 but had it quite bad as a youngster and has it because it ruins in the family along with asthma and hayfever.

He hasnt had any creams on for over 9 months now, as i discovered too much cream on and they rely on it too much so i weaned him off it and his skin looks great now.

Maia has eczema and we were prescribed Doublebase cream twice a day. Its doing a really good job of clearing it up, shame she hates having it applied!

I had excema as i child and i grew out of it, Taylor developed it at about 2 months i used diprobate bath oniment and cream on him, he doesnt have it anymore, it was bad for a couple of months but im not going to change the cream because i dont want it to come back. But on the negative side when taylor got it, it come back to get me and i cannot get rid of mine its all over my hands wrist and elbows, id prefer to have it now than tj suffer

My neice had it almost from birth!! The only bthibg I can really suggest other than what others have said, is only put her in cotton clothing. Anything synthetic is going to make her sweaty and clammy, and that aggrivated excema even more. Wool will be itchy too, so ask any knitting relatives and friends to use only yarn made of cotton (it is out there, Mum used it for Harriets cardis :) )
