Hello girls!
I finally have a little bit of time to actually open my laptop and write a few lines down! So here goes...
Obviously as most of you already know my due date was 19 September and this being my second baby I was absolutely sure that if not early he would at least arrive on time! Little did I know... I had been getting pains and discomfort and lost the plug a good few weeks before the due date. So nothing happened and I was starting to get REALLY uncomfortable and depressed, I had a huge bump and it was heavy and I was slightly anemic and couldn't breathe properly plus having a 2 year old toddler running around at home as well... Not too much fun!
Well anyway... On the night of the 28th it was our usual Tuesday CSI night. It's a little tradition for OH and I to watch 3 episodes in a row every Tuesday as we both love it. That night I could not sit down at all, I was so uncomfortable. I missed most of the episodes as I couldn't lie down or sit down or stand up - it was horrible. Felt quite sick and didn't feel like having dinner even though I hadn't eaten all day. So that was rather strange. As I was so uncomfortable I didn't fall asleep until 3 o'clock in the morning... And woke up at just gone past 4 in the morning to some strange back pains... I just thought it was the usual pains so tried to go back to sleep. They weren't too painful but uncomfortable enough so I could not go back to sleep... Was excited and nervous and scared at the same time so got up, started walking around the flat and came on the forum! I wasn't sure of anything as last time round I knew things had started because my waters broke.
So anyway I was walking around waiting to see whether they would wear off but they wouldn't go anywhere. Woke OH up and said that he can put his Out Of Office reply on his work emails as he won't need to go in. He was sleepy and confused and all he could say was "How do you know?"
So I told him to go back to sleep for a bit but obviously he was too excited. I kept walking around, put a film on to keep me distracted... Pains were still coming and going so decided to have a bath. God what a bliss! Had quite a hot bath and it was soooo soothing! OH was pouring water on my back and it was nice. After about an hour decided to come out, called hospital just in case, they said to monitor contractions and if they get too bad to go in.
Found a contractions timer online which was very helpful! By about 12 midday the pains had got really quite bad. Still just about bearable but hurting a lot! So I was doing the proper breathing, jumped in the shower and just stood there, again, very helpful! Contractions were all about 40 something seconds long and about every 4-5 minutes. So I didn't think it was quite the time to go in yet! (NCT class teacher told me to stay home for as long as possible to be in my own environment etc - best piece of advice I have ever got!)
So about quarter past 1 the pains were getting really bad and told OH I wanted to go because if I left it any later I wouldn't be able to sit in a taxi anymore. So we got a taxi and got to the hospital at about 2 pm. Midwife examined me and I was 6 cms dilated, said it would be no more than a couple of hours. Asked if I wanted to use the birthing pool! I could hardly breathe and would've done anything so said yes (hadn't even really considered it before). So they ran the pool, I got in, again, what a bliss! For about 10 minutes. I wanted to stay in the pool though. Water was warm and soothing when I wasn't having a contraction. They offered G&A which I happily accepted! So much fun, felt so drunk I laughed but sobered up as soon as another contraction hit! Helped me focus and breathe through though! Soon enough I started feel like pushing, or so I thought, I just wanted to get it over and done with! They kept telling me not to push but I was in so much pain and I just felt like I couldn't do it anymore. OH was holding my hand and G&A for me, which I stopped using as it was too painful to even think about doing anything
So to cut the long essay short after bit of crying a screaming out came my little boy at 15.52 pm in the birthing pool weighing 10.2lbs! He was placed on me straight away and he was happy and content for quite some time and then screamed. Left the cord uncut for about 20 minutes which I loved. OH was crying his eyes out and so was I. I was just so happy it was over and finally met my gorgeous baby boy. I sat in the bath for another 20 minutes or so with Cameron on me. Must admit the afterpains were really bloody painful this time round! Felt like proper contractions and were really tiring! So got out of the bath, had skin to skin with Cameron, gave him a feed, they checked me over, no tears or anything - very lucky! Tore quite a bit with Brandon. They said that water birth helps as well as it softens and relaxes the muscles.
So yes... Everything was fine with me and my boy, they kept me in for the night as my iron levels were a bit low but got out the following morning and now just settling in, trying to get Brandon used to his new brother etc.
I am so sorry for the longest story ever! Hope you haven't fallen asleep!
I shall put some pictures up shortly as well, need to go and admire my new boy now!
