Hey ladies! Hope you're all well. Ive only just had the time to come on here so will write my birth story and will post pics as soon as i can work the technology IT IS LONG, but think ive included it all!
I just wanted to thank my text buddy Berit87 for being such a good buddy and for posting the messages
So here goes.....
Months ago ( i was about 5-6months pregnant) i had a dream about Harry's birth and that it was September 9th. It was a dream that stuck in my head and i had never forgotten the date....
As berit said, apart from back ache which i figured was because of the weight i was carrying, i had had no real signs to get excited about.
The week before i had a slight bleed, but wasnt stringy and nothing developed so guess it wasnt anything really. I could tell my body was preparing itself because of previous nesting, a clear out ( i think!) and tummy ache at times, but that was it!
Anyway, at my last mw appointment ( the sat before i gave birth) Harry was 2/5 engaged and by now, i thought there was no way he would come early!
BUT....after relaxing on the mon and tues, i decided i would be active and have a day out on the Wednesday with M.I.Law and had back ache all that day but again thought nothing of it. Nothing new afterall!
Got home and a few hours later at bout 6 or 7pm it became stronger but because i had walked all day i again thought nothing of it.
My hubby was next to me on the sofa at 9.25 when all of a sudden i felt a gush of water flow out and i knew it was my waters. I got excited now and couldnt believe that things were actually happening!
I laughed about it at 1st, rang the hospital and they said wait until it spreads across your tummy before coming in. Hmmm.
Alan started timing and within 10mins the pains in my back were stronger and were every 5 mins, then 4mins, then nearly every 3 mins and it had now spread around the front.
I had a bath when they were about 4 mins apart at 10.30ish which helped slightly, but it started to wear off and i was in a lot of pain by now, Alan said 'right, we're going in!' lol, so i rang the hospital again and they said to go straight to delivery.
Alan must have been driving at god knows how many miles an hr, but i was having painful contractions, stuck in a chair and so didnt care at all!!!
We arrived at hospital at 12ish ( we kinda lost track of time by now) and after ringing the bell atleast 6 time and knocking on the door ( even though we could hear voices!) i wsas starting to get proper annoyed!!! NOT a good start to the experience at all!!
Anyway, after eventually being let in in lots of pain, i was told i was 4-5cm dilated. I was kind of surprised as i had somehow managed on no pain relief by then, not even paracetomal.
The midwife was serious and i knew instantly i would not enjoy having her company 1 bit! 1 lovely mw popped in and out initially ( she knew what i though of the other 1) but then was needed elsewhere, so i was stuck with a quiet, serious mw who offered no support and encouragement to me at all
They checked me at what must have been about 2.30ish and i was now 6cm dilated using gas and air. However, i then asked for an epidural as it was becoming too much! They faffed about preparing me for it and all in all i had to wait for i'd say 1.5hrs before the anaethetist ( excuse spelling) came and he looked quite concerned as by now i was yelling i wanted to push. The mw now accompanied by another ( not much nicer) told me not to and to just breathe the gas and air, but the man asked them how dilated i was, tow hich tehy said 8cm. He asked how long ago they checked me which was 20mins and so he told them to check me again, and i was almost fully dilated and at teh pushing stage, so there was no point having the epidural anymore. i wasnt impressed but now knew Harry was nearly here as they got gloves on and set up his little cot and monitor.
After pushing for 20mins perhaps ( again, didnt really take note of the time) i felt his head right at the end, but despite pushing with all of my might ( hubby said i was bright bright red) the head still wouldnt pop out, so they cut me ( i didnt feel it...phew) and ended up using a suction device ( cant remember the name) and out he came at 4.19am! All i saw was a head of dark hair, and he weighted 6lbs 15! Nothing like the 8lbs we believed he would be.
He looked absolutely gorgeous, more than i ever had expected and was just like a doll! Pushing out the placenta hurt more than i thought and the stitches too ( needed just 1 or 2 though), but i was so relieved it was over, as i was told to stay on the bed THE WHOLE TIME to monitor Harry's heart beat as the mw was choosing to despite a doctor saying there was no need. Talk about contradictory
I was kept in overnight as apparantly babies delivered by an instrument of any kind are more prine to jaundice, but little Harry was just fine so we went home at 2pm on the friday. wahoo.
Anyway, despite the delivery not going as i'd hoped, labour was pretty quick and so i cant grumble, and i now have a gorgous little man that makes it all worth it
Sorry if i waffled and i will def put pics on here soon when i can get to grips with technology and when i have a bit longer.
Thanks for reading
