Anything different for your second?

Is there anything different you would do or get for having a second baby?

I know for definite I want a new pram but the rest I'll be reusing.
Just wondering what everyone else is doing different or not

There's a 7 year age gap between my first son and this one that is due in 12 weeks so we don't really have much of his to hand down other than a huge bag of clothing. We are definitely not going to be wasting money on some of the "essentials" that we bought with our first, such as changing units, bimbo etc. We've bought a decent pram (icandy peach) as we bought cheap with our son and went through 5 with him by the time he was out of them lol! Not bothering with a Moses basket as our first had outgrown it by around 6-8 weeks.

If I could afford it I'd buy a next to me crib. Apart from that it's all hand me downs from dd.

Oh and I bought a close caboo. I figured a bit more wearing might make things easier

I barely bought anything for my second! I had another boy and born at a similar time of year so luckily all the clothes have come In! Think the only thing I'd do different is to buy a monitor with a split screen if you can- literally nothing else! Good luck with two, you'll nail it xx

I bought a next 2 me this time as my daughter had a swinging crib and hated it.

But actually I think Ive learned not to go so mental on stuff. I have a back issue and so a changing table is a lifesaver for me. I got one off a family member but I'd probably have bought it second hand.

Same with a baby carrier. In our July mummies group, loads of the ladies have got amazing second hand bargains too, most of them almost brand new. I bought a quite expensive new pram but if I had still got my daughters stuff I'd certainly be reusing xx

This thread is really interesting for first timers like me! I understood that you could buy a changing mat kind of thing and put it on top of a chest of drawers. Is that something you guys would do or is it one of those things you don’t really need?

We just put the changing mat on the sofa and changed our LG there!

You can do, but it's personal preference. I got one of the changing table things with the bath in it from a family member. I've just stuck it in my room for now. . I have a disk issue in my back so it was one of my best buys this time and with my daughter. Especially since this time I didn't pay for it. I just can't change her on the floor or sofa etc, it's too hard on my back

But some people say it's a waste. The cot I'm buying has a cot top changer otherwise I'd do what you suggested for her room, though probably buy the proper drawers with the changing mat part already on it for safety. Like I said though it's up to you xx

We pretty much bought everything new BUT a very much scaled down version because we knew what we might have actually used this time round.

I changed my boys on the mat on the floor - purely space and convenience BUT my joints and back didnt particularly like that.

Considering my 2 will only be 10 months apart Ive still had to buy a fair amount. This one is a boy, so needed all new clothes, needed to buy a new pram cos needed a double one, new mattress for crib, new Moses basket cos was pink, new cot cos dd will still be using, new dummies, bottles etc haha. So yeah barely anything is gonna be reused.

Re changing mats we have one which can be put over the cot so you can stand on at it, but it's removable. It was a tenner so not expensive. Personally both than and changing him on baby change facilities, sofas, giant foot stools all kill my back. I can only comfortably change him on the floor. Hubby is the opposite and needs a bit of height. The problem is you often don't know this until you have a baby!

Thanks ladies.
We have a changing table with open shelves for DD and if I had my way I'd but one that's a chest of drawers for the next baby as it would make much more sense. Our next baby will be going into the smallest room so I'm trying to think of space saving ideas too.

We have a cot top changer from dd which I used over her cot but this time I'll just put it on tip of my bed as the cot it not up. Tbh I might not bother with it at all and just put a mat on the bed
