Hi Girls

I just wondered how successful IUI is. I read that it is a not as effective as IVF and ICSI but there must be some success stories with it otherwise they would not offer it as a treatment??? Does anyone know somene who has had it and it has worked??

Hey Gizzy how you doing? :) Our doctor at the hospital they told us the chances of success on IUI is 1 in 11 - obviously that is based on the results from my hospital (in Glasgow). They said that IVF had a 1 in 3 chance of success. She basically said they offer IUI while you're on the waiting list for IVF (where I live the waiting time for IVF is 24 months!).

I do have a sort of a success IUI story though. My friend was at the beginning of IUI and giving herself injections and taking tablets and was told they had missed the window for ovulation after a scan then a couple of weeks later she found out she was preggers! She doesn't know if the shots she was giving herself helped her along but you never know!

I will be getting it myself next summer if I don't get pg before then. Hope that helps? xxx

Thanks Kay Kay, I am doing well thanks and hope you are too.!!
The info is helpful.
I am shocked that the waiting list for IVF is 24 months that is really appalling and makes me really angry. How far are you along in that? I hope it comes around soon but if not then I hope I hope you fall naturally.

We are right at the start of all of this (although we have been TTC for 2.5 years) so I dread to think how long we have to wait in Essex. All of our appointments have been private so far but we wont be able to afford IVF as it is so expensive so we have now been referred on the NHS. My husband sperm count was a little low too but hopefully we will know more in a few weeks about where we are and what we need. After that it is over to the NHS... it looks like we will be waiting for a while.. :-(

Good luck with your IUI.. xxx

Love Gizzy xx

I don't think the success rates it great but well worth it if it works :)

I think they do it because it's cheap :)

Also I think waiting lists depends on how many goes people get - only a few months in my area but we only get one go xx

I had iui & it never worked for me & my doctor said he wouldnt ask me to have another because his words where ( it wont work ) he had NO hopes in iui at all & he was meant to be a fertility doctor, i seen his comments as helping me hence what i have gone through trying to have a child so i knew he just didnt want me to put myself through more stress. BUT i know a lady who had twins from iui boy & girl, she was on clomid too. Its all down to luck really like any fertility treatment but its worth a go hun. x

I know the waiting lists are shocking, in my hosp they have reduced the number of free turns of IVF from 3 down to 2, just recently as well so that is pretty poo. Not as bad as only one mind (Lou!) but s'pose you don't need to wait as long. I was told they backdate any treatment to when you first got referred though so for me if still not prg after IUI I will be getting IVF Apr 2013. I pray to god it doesn't come to that though! xxx
