Hi ladies,

Well I have been in agony with back pain since about 8am. I have lost my mucous plug this morning in 2 lumps. The 2nd much bigger than the 1st. No bloody show and no waters.

I have just called my mum as she had back labour with both me and my brother. She did not have any painful contractions in her belly at all with either of us. She did not have a bloody show either. I know its not likely to be hereditary but I wanted to know what she went through with her labours.

Well, I get stronger pain for a few seconds every 25/30 minutes.

I do have a lumbar curvature which I see a chiropractor for and I saw her only last week about it. She did say it can cause some issues post pregnancy but did not say anything about the labour.

Has anyone here had back labour? Can you describe where you felt the pain? And how bad was it? I have a fairly high pain threshold as I have ulcerative colitis and fibromyalgia (along with migraines) so I am no stranger to pain. This is pretty awful though.

If it were back labour, would I be feeling contractions as normal? I am struggling to time things.

Thanks in advance.

I had both back labours but both were back to back. I never had regular contractions so timing them was worthless even when pushing it varied. The pain was always in my lower back being on all fours really helped. I don't really know what to compare the pain to but I managed on only gas and air. Get oh or someone to rub your back it really helps. I never had a show or waters go until later in labour. Hope things are moving for you. X

Thanks Wifey.

Back pain still pretty bad. Very low down. No more plug, no waters and no show.

Waiting for DH to get in from work before I attempt the bath just in case I can't get back out! Lay on the sofa for a bit and it seems to have eased off a bit. My baby was head down facing my spine at last check so hoping he had not moved. I have read that short women and women with a bit of a curve going on can have back labour. I have had some cramps low down in abdomen but nothing like this back pain ever!

If I am still this bad tomorrow morning when I get up I will call the MW and ask her what she thinks I should do.

Olly was back to back, I still had pain in my tummy but my lower back was agony. They gave me heat patches in hospital but I couldn't stand anybody touching it. The heat worked for a while before I zonked out on diamorphine, now that took the sharpness away !!

Hope things are moving for you. Labour is a funny thing, our bodies gear upto the big day for weeks. My labour all happened so sudden but I did have bh for weeks thinking it was starting but when it actually did I knew - I was on my ball watching friends and noticed pains were coming and going so I timed them by clicking sky planner and they were 15 - 10 mins apart. I put the timer on my iphone and within 2 hours they went to 6 mins apart so I got up to run a bath, when I sat back down on the couch my waters went. This was 6.30pm - never had my bath :-( But contractions really stepped up and I couldn't get hold of the hospital for 2 hours (it was constantly engaged) so I went in at 8.45pm and Olly was born at 1.31am

You will know when its the real thing - fingers crossed it is

xx

Sounds promising hun. Don't worry about if back to back that was just my experience. X

I hope so but I am not going to hope too much. It seems to have calmed down from earlier. I was trying to get comfy and ended up taking 2 paracetemol to get some rest just in case. Seemed to take the nippy feeling away each time I moved but now just a constant griding ache :(

Hubby due home any minute. Need to go and check on my pony then dinner, bath and bed I think.

Thanks for the replies ladies. Everything I have read about back labour online is not really very helpful! It might not even be back labour. I might just be having strong pain today from pre-existing problems. My body is pretty useless so would not surprise me in the slightest!

Any update? I had a lot of pain in my back but some pain at the front too. Heat packs, rubbing from OH and leaning forward helped.

Hi Bunny.

Well everything sort of stopped early hours yesterday. I had cramps and 'contractions' all night until about 3am then it just stopped.

My bump is a really weird shape now and my pelvis is agony, so I think he has fully engaged.

I have not lost any more plug but I have quite a bit of discharge so I think things might be moving along soon.

My DH has said it will be the 21st from day one so he might be right!

Hope kit happens for you soon. It certainly sounds like things are moving in the right direction! Sometimes things can kind of start and stop for quite a while before it really gets going.
