This book has been recommended to me and apparantly has a 95% success rate with no withdrawal symptoms. Its endorsed by numerous health bodies so just got a copy and watch this space!

Anyone else read it?

I read this book in January last year and didnt smoke for a year. Had no withdrawal pangs or moods, it was great. Unfortunately I went back to them after a very heavy night out at New Year. I am half way through reading it again though so hopefully Allen Carr is going to help me kick it again!
Good luck xx

Really recommend it. My brother read it after smoking for 15 years and hasn't touched one since. My friend also smoked for 20 years and hasn't touched once since the book.
Good luck!

I know a few people who've read it and been able to stop.
I read it, and it didn't help me stop, it helped me cut down, but at the time i wasn't really "ready" to give up!!

Although last night using the guidelines set in the book i had my last cig!

And dispite being sat in the smoking section i'm not actually craving a ciggy!! *proud face*

I would recommend the book, its definately worth a try if you really want to give up!!

well done hayley!!! i managed 2 just stop with both my pregnancies, i wasnt much of a smoker tho unless i was at work or out(a social smoker u cud say!!) and hopefully now with the ban being in place ill be able 2 stay stopped as dont want 2 b goin outside in the pub 4 a fag!!!not tht ill have time 4 pub wen lo no 2 is here!!!

Work will probably be hard for me.... not going outside for that nicotine intake on a bad day!!!

But at the moment i'm not due back in work for another 8 days, so really give me chance to get out of the habit!!
Am lagging abit now, but don't actually fancy one.... would make me feel sick... actually, the thought of the smell is making me feel sick!!

(the thought of the smell of anything is knocking me sick at the moment!)

I fell off the wagon over the weekend, will read the book again and keep trying. I'm starting work in a hospital next week so should make it much easier!

i fell off the wagon today
nearly did 24 hours!!!!
hmmmmm

tomorrow is a new day!!!!

I gave up by myself last October, but then went and bought this book about a fortnight later to help me stay off the fags. As I was reading it, I realised that his way of thinking is exactly what I had done anyway, so it just re-inforced what I had done. He's great!

I don't suppose anyone's ever found a talking book from him? My DH gave up the same time as me, but has slowly gone back to them, and now is back to 20 a day. :( But he's really dyslexic so it would take him about a month to read the book. But he is a greenkeeper and drives around on machines all day listening to his iPod. If I could get it on mp3 or something he could listen to it. :)

Can get it from iTunes.....
Its £11.95....
In music store search for "easy way to stop smoking"

hope this helps!!!

They say you crave for all of 5 minutes maximum each time :D

I gave up smoking about 4 years ago....piled on 3 1/2 stone, but then I did eat everything I could get my hands on and was baking etc all the time. I eventually went back on the cigs and was very quickly back up to 20 a day. Then my friend bought me the Allen Carr book...I read it within two days and have never touched a cigarette since...that was 2 years ago.....its great to feel so good....Would defo reccommend reading it. My friend smoked 60 a day, she was 58 years old and had smoked from being a teen...she read the book and hasn't touched a cig since and she's fit as a fiddle....Good luck girlies....its worth it in the long run.

Hey Wobbles

I think most are revised editions of the same thing, except for a "women's" version and an audio CD. I'd go for the most recently published one - I think the one at the top of the page on your link would be the one.

Good luck x

My friend read this book and she quit for 15 weeks but then after a very difficult situation she started again, so I guess it really does help you kick the habit, but seems you need to call on your will power sometimes too.

Good Luck everyone trying to quit, you certainly have my best wishes, I know how darn hard it is

hi
I've just found out i'm pregnant and although i have cut down i don't think i can stop alone!!!! :(

so after reading your posts i've downloaded the audiobook on my i pod and i'm going to start listening to it tonight.

i have no willpower and although i know smoking will harm the baby i smoke as i am so worried something will go wrong. stupid but true!!!

so if this book works for me it should work for anyone. will keep you all posted.

I read this book and stopped 6 years ago. Didn't smoke at all for 3 after that and now have been known when peeadled to have one or two but honestly never fancy them.

Obviously now ttc - don't at all.

Popped in hear to tell you about it actually but doesn't look like I need to.

xx

I replied to this post back in July 2006 (2nd reply on thread) and just spotted this and thought I would put an update on. I was half way through reading this book then and am pleased to say that I have not smoked since :cheer:

Alan Carr is a cautionary/encouragement to give up fast for all smokers. Even after 23 years of being a non-smoker, and helping other smokers give up, he still sadly succumbed to the consequences of his former 60 a day or more habit, and last year sadly died of lung cancer. :(

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allen_Carr

He was still a great example for other smokers to follow, and maybe his giving up stopped him getting cancer years earlier than he did. I hate to scare people but try to cut down/give up fast.

I gave up 3 years ago, using the patches and gum at the same time due to an extreme habit :)
