I thought I would put up my induction story as, aside from the pain, it was incredibly positive.

I went in for 8am Friday morning, went through everything with the mw (who delivered ds1!) and the pessary went in at 9:20am. I was 1cm dilated so it was all looking positive. Was meant be examined at 3:30 but the labour ward put a stop to all inductions as they were oversubscribed. Was put on the trace but had to come off after 15 minutes as he was going crazy and my back was in agony.

From then on, the pains were getting worse and I was having full blown contractions by 4:30. I asked for pain relief at 5:30 but was told they can't until I went onto labour ward. I was examined and was supposedly 2cm dilated (this has to be bull) and preparations were made to send me to labour ward.

By this point I was nearly sobbing with the pain, contractions were coming back to back. A lovely mw support worker ran me a hot bath and it helped so much. A mw came in to help with my breathing which helped again but every time I asked for gas and air I was told no. I ended up screaming for it and was told I could have it if I got out the bath. Got up, got back to my cubicle, still no gas and air.

What felt like forever but was probably only 10 - 15 mins 2 mws from labour ward came to get me. I had to keep making them stop the wheelchair when I contracted as I couldn't hold myself up. I was clutching a pillow and focusing on a flower, blowing all my pain out onto the flower!

This brought us to 7:20pm, got out the lift and waters exploded. Went straight into a room and the mw kept telling me to get off the chair cus he had pooed in me. I started pushing in the chair and the mw pressed the panic button, getting mws running about finding towels and goodness knows what else. Forced myself over to the bed mid-contraction, I could feel him coming down.

I started pushing at 7:20pm and he was born at 7:33pm, with his hand by his face just like his brother. I have a small 2nd degree tear but thankfully avoided any assistance.

It was so intense and so painful, but I much prefer it that way than long and drawn out. He is a big baby for my 5ft size (he was 8lb 12) and I was so worried about needing an emcs but I was very lucky. Not sure I ever want an induction again but it was a very positive experience.

That's amazing. I'm hoping my birth will be similar. Natural and fast but I know there's a lot that can go wrong. It sounds like you coped fantastically well. Your an inspiration. Congratulations. Xxx

:blush: Ohh thank you, I wouldn't go that far. Hope you have a quick and safe labour too hun :)

Sounds very similar to my first labour where I was induced and then progressed very quickly with no gas and air available. Have app tomorrow to find out if I will be induced this time due to slowed growth and reduced movements so nice and refreshing to read this just beforehand. Thanks for being thoughtful enough to post it ~ hope you are doing well post birth xx

As I understand it, if you've had a successful induction once, it's more likely to happen again. Hope everything goes will with your appt!

Thanks kumber! Yes I just had one pessary last time and labour was an hour and 16 long. Very painful and very intense, but as you say it least it was done and dusted nice and quickly. X

Aww that sounds lovely (if a little painful!)

Congratulations

Congratulations! And thanks for posting this...im terrified and as painful as it sounds the fact you look back on it as positive makes me feel better x

Thanks girls :)

Rainbow, def look on the positive. Just focus on breathing really slowly and controlled, it'll really help.

Yours sounds a little better than mine and you seem to have had midwifes that supported you. Glad it wasnt too traumatic for you xx

The mw who took me from maternity assessment and delivered him was amazing. The mws on the maternity assessment were awful, I had to ask probably about 10 times for pain killers and all they offered me was codeine up until I made it expressly clear I was in active labour and in agony. Even when they did say they would give me gas and air, it never showed up! I must have been waiting for about 20-25mins after getting out the bath and it never appeared. I think I will put in a complaint about one particular mw as she put a stop to me getting pain relief when she was told by a more senior mw to give it to me.

Thats what happened to me Kumber only I was being left in a wee room with a toilet and a bath. Bath done nothing and my contractions were back to back had to beg to be examined. Once she finally did she said I was 4cm went to labour ward which was a 2 min lift journey and I was 10cm and too late for an epidural. My mum doesnt believe I was only 4cm lol some very similar stuff happened with us. So basically I got to 10cm on just 2 paracetamol and some codeine. Damn procedure!!!! I can joke now Kumber lol xx

You did brilliantly Hun, so glad everything went well and you and baby are doing good too :) xxx

Thanks for sharing your birth story kumber, it sounds like you did great!

I'd def put in a complaint about that mw...

It's v reassuring you went pretty much pain free and gave birth to an 8 pounder (almost 9 lb-er!) I'm 5ft as well and it's looking like I'm having a little chunk too :)

Glad you feel it was a positive experience Kumber. I had similar issues when I had my daughter, was in agony and was telling them I needed gas and air etc but they kept insisting I could only be 2-3cm as you supposedly only dilate 1cm an hour with your first baby but I insisted she check and when she did I was 7-8cm! If you ever feel like you are being fobbed off ladies just put your foot down and make them check, you know your body better than anyone else! x

I 100% agree with this H16, and tell your birth partners they may need to speak for you! If you're in too much pain, it's almost impossible to adequately convey it sometimes.

Glad to see another postive induction story. I wouldnt actually mind being induced. I was only like 10 hours from first pessary insertion but like you waters went by themself and things then progressed really quickly.

Congratulations!

Morning ladies, just browsing through the forum.

Iv heard a lot recently from mums who were denied pain relief due to being a few cm to then suddenly so far dilated that it's too late...

Does anyone think that this is deliberate to save money? Are midwives targeted on how many births are pain relief free? Or am I being crazy and skeptical? Haha

Wishing you all the best in your pregnancies and impending motherhood

xx

It is a good theory sparkles, my last labour was 2 years ago but I was mortified they wouldn't take me seriously until I pushed the issue as in the meantime I was left screaming my head off in agony in a ward with 6 other ladies and their families who all though I was being very dramatic for supposedly 2cm lol x

I was in more agony being 1-2cm then I was the rest of the labour!!!

I went for a shower and it brought on bad contractions, one on top of each other and I was given pethadine and went for a snooze until 5cm.

So thankful for that, god knows how I would have managed all the way through labour at the pain I was in from 1-2cm. Then after when waters went and I was in delivery I was just on G&A.
