To give you bit of background Lexi was breech and was delivered naturally breech....she had a hip scan at 6 weeks and I was told everything was fine she started properly walking at 13 months.

So I've just had my second baby and the midwife was out visiting us, Lexi walked by and the midwife mentioned about her walking on her tip toes. She said she needs to be referred to Yorkhill (our local children's hospital).

I know Lexi walks on her tiptoes when she isn't wearing shoes but I didn't know it was an issue so I'm feeling really upset that I missed this potential problem....I've also now noticed that sometimes she does it when she is wearing shoes.

The health visitor is coming on Monday to see us all so I will get more details then but I'm worried....

Does anyone have any experiences of this good or bad?
Thanks x

My nephew is 3 in July. He walks on tip toes. He's been under the care of the local hospital for about a year now maybe?

He has short tendons in his ankles where he's been use to walking on tip toes, my sister has to do physio and exercises with him and he also has to wear splints to bed. If all that fails he will need surgery but that is a big if. He has started walking better flat footed but still sometimes walks on tip toes if he's playing etc as he forgets. A quick prompt and he'll walk flat footed again.

My sister was told my consultants and physios it's a common problem that they see and sometimes it can be down to using a sit in walker as normally whilst they use it they use tiptoes. So it becomes more habit than anything I think.

I wouldn't worry too much. I think it's a common mistake to not notice, if it wasn't for my nephew I wouldn't know any different either!

We're kinda in the same boat. Harper is 14 months, not walking independently, and one of her feet she tip toes with, will not put it flat for anything. As I've seen this happen with my nephew I got the HV to refer me to local children's hospital already so it can be rectified before it becomes too much of a habit.

Hope you get some answers from the HV x

Thanks for this....Lexi was never in a baby walker so know it won't be to do with that But I tend to think it might be a habit.
I've been watching her and I know she can walk flat but only occasionally.

Wish I was given a checklist or something of what to look out for but I suppose there is so many things they couldn't do everything lol x

Harper was never really I n a walker either as I was already aware by then because of my nephew so I don't know how she picked it up but watching harper I really do believe a lot of it is down to habit. It's just breaking the habit.

It's a minefield isn't it! So many things that babies/toddlers tend to do that I'm constantly questioning if it's normal or not! X

My nephew is just turned 2 and past few months he randomly goes between different walking styles
We call it the ministry of funny walks
Sometimes on his toes. Other times like marching. Or like military guard style walking. I dont think its an issue though
