Would we get hospitalized for sever morning sickness?

I feel the need to say something in Linnys defence...

I am by no means a fan of the Royal family, nor do I have any issues with them.
Basically, my feelings on the Royal family are - "meh".

When I first heard Kate was in hospital with morning sickness, I was like, "what? Poor thing. Wait... Just for morning sickness? Wow, Kate's pregnant, great news for her and Will"... That was basically my 10 second thought process.

Then I just couldn't believe she'd be hospitalised for morning sickness, so I googled and found out about this HG thing, that it affects around 1:50 people (so, it's pretty common), and just how friggin bad it is.
Like, could-be-killer bad.

I maybe don't wonder about our treatment for the same condition, it's the press' obsessiveness that pisses me off.
The poor girl's sick.
Leave her alone.

I think it's a very valid question, that Linny has asked. After all, without asking, we wouldn't know. Now because of Linnys question, people are learning about it.

Personally, I'm just as concerned for all the health proffessionals who over the next few weeks, are gonna get swamped under by people who are convinced they've now got HG. X

When you put it as 1 in 50, that seems a lot, but 2% is stills fairly low number. And i may be wrong, but I think there can still be varying degrees of it, obviously it doesn't kill everyone.

But if Kate being in hosp with it means more docs see it as a real condition then, that's gotta be good.

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(

No one has said anything bad against Linny, we just gave our answers x

They do a test for keytones in your urine, if they are present in ANYONE you would be hospitalised, they wouldn't just take a guess she's dehydrated and bung her in hossy, I'm sure she will genuinely have HG. There's a girl on here who was hospitalised with it tallulahgosh I think her name is.

T'was me. :)

I have a very severe case of HG, but I think all cases of HG are bad and wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I lost 24 pounds in weight (from a healthy/normal starting weight) am considered malnourished, messed up my liver and kidneys, so much so that my kidneys probably can't fully recover now, have ruined my teeth because I got TMJ and the bone/muscles couldn't support my jaw properly any more. Spent more time in hospital than I care to remember attached to all sorts of drips, monitors and had all sorts of drugs shoved up my butt. But despite all that my baby is doing just fine, which amazes me every day. I am still sick, still having IV vitamins that make me glow a lovely shade of yellow and am resigned to this lasting until the baby arrives. I am just praying that once baby is born I can get back to normal though I have already been told not to expect that.

I am about as Republican as you can get, a good Irish Catholic girl ;) but I feel sorry for Catherine, the poor girl has been the Royal Uterus since they got married and now because some smuck of a friend of theirs was going to leak the pregnancy news they had to go public instead of just saying she was unwell. While I am sure she will never read comments such as those on this forum or elsewhere on the internet and in the media it is quite galling to read so many judgy comments about someone none of us have ever met. She's not a fool though and knew what to expect when she married into the Royal family. But it is quite amusing (though that is the wrong word) that Leveson has just finished and the press are outside the hospital like a pack of wolves waiting for the first photo of Catherine's lady bits or whatever it is they are trying to achieve.

And I don't think that just because some people have had poor treatment on the NHS but Catherine gets good private health care (so do I, bite me!) that is an excuse to begrudge her the care she needs. Whatever you think (and like I said, I am republican) her baby will be heir to the throne, and rightly or wrongly she has good healthcare available to her. Unfortunately when you are Royal the media will go nuts and you all have to endure a minute by minute update on Catherine's condition. That isn't her fault. I bet she would be far happier to hang out alone with her sick bowl wearing her tracky bottoms without a media frenzy going on outside.

And as for the nurse who called her HG patients precious further up this thread, aren't you all supposed to be practising the six Cs these days? Thankfully in my experience your attitude does not reflect those of the other nurses in the NHS. Everyone has a different pain threshold, coping mechanism and way of dealing with being in hospital. I can only hope and pray that while I lay there watching my heart rate dance all over the place my nurses didn't think I was being precious.

It is quite clearly my soap box subject, not just because of Catherine but because HG isn't morning sickness. I hope a high profile person suffering with HG (though I wish she wasn't) raises the profile of this debilitating condition and makes more healthcare professionals aware.

And I don't think anyone said anything bad about/to Linny, she asked a question and a bunch of people answered. These type of threads are always interesting to me because you get such a variety of opinions and we all come from such different walks of life and have different points of views on everything from Royalty to morning sickness to HG. Interesting stuff and far more so to me than "does my bump look big in this" type ones ;)

I wish you all healthy, non pukey pregnancies :)

they are a married couple - looking forward to their first child and im now 24wks but i was shit scared in tri 1 and i want to say :hugs: and support for kate she must be terrified xx

I didn't call hyperemesis patients precious.
I said some have it really bad and some women are precious as in they have the same amount of nausea as most women and might be sick maybe once or not even at all and don't have any ketones but still need to be nursed. That is all.
And by saying they are bit precious does not in anyway indicate that I do not care for them to the best of my ability!
Some people are more precious than others. Just because I've noticed that in some people over the years doesn't make me some uncaring heartless cow.
Everyone should be treated equally, royal or the dustbin man (though ide doubt he'd get hyperemesis :p)

I also suffered with HG, from being 6 weeks up til 19 weeks! I was nearly hospitalised on several occasions, but I think my doc was a bit crap I wouldn't have been able to cope alone at home or even got to the docs I it wasn't for my friend. I would spent my whole time curled up on the bathroom floor because I didn't have the energy to keep walking back and forth to be sick. Luckily anti sickness tablets stopped the sickness enough for be to just stay hydrated enough to only ever have 2+ ketones, and as someone said u need 3+ to be admitted.

As for Kate, I'm glad to she has been seen quickly as HG is not fun at all and I wish everyone would have treatment the same way. My first thoughts when I heard was bless her, how awful for her to suffer so bad and then wow it's been announced before 12 weeks, that's brave. I suffered pretty bad last year for 4 weeks during my missed mc, so it's not always a sign all is well. I just hope that she is well looked after, after all she is only a woman probably scared as much as any one xx

I'm glad you posted tallulah as I feel you have taught us all something. I don't understand why so many people are just assuming that poor Catherine was admitted straight away. For all we know she may have been on anti sickness drugs from her GP for weeks and they simply aren't working. Just because we've only just heard about her illness and hospitalisation doesn't mean she hasn't been suffering in silence long before now.
I have had standard morning sickness and that's bad enough...I could think of nothing worse than having to look my best and do the rounds at all these events she needs to be seen at. Poor bugger playing hockey last week!
I wish them all the best! :)

Why are they admitted if not sick?

Sent from my shit hot phone! Fo shizzle home girls.

I don't know how accurate it is but I've just had an email through about the royals (I am a big fan of the royals) saying she is only 4 weeks to 5 weeks pregnant. Now I'm not being funny but if she is only 4-5 weeks gone then she has only just started getting sick she either

1 - has thrown up a handful of times and everything has been taken as precaution and madness

2 - it's hit her really really hard early on poor bab

3 - at that stage she could have a sickness bug! Lets face it she hasn't given it much time lol!!!

But I do like the royals and which ever it is if she is only 4-5 weeks she must not have tried all the sickness medication. The poor dear tho! Either way

Great so us ladies in england are the only ones who have to pay for prescriptions! :shakehead: haha xxxx

Lucky you we pay for gp ? Hospital , ambulance , prescriptions , surgery the lot . That's why I got the huno when it was suggested that private insurance was a privilege  I'd be bankrupt without it

I think she's more like 8 weeks gone evie.

Again the media hype saying oh she can't be that far gone, it's very rare to get that sick that early is a load of bull.

My HG hit me at 7 weeks. It can hit anyone at anytime.

I think the media should be banned on saying anything like this until they have there facts right! Also think they should have more restrictions in place over what they can say and how much they can hound someone.

I don't like royals etc but still hope Kate well and that she dosen't suffer from sickness until birth like many of us as it's nasty bleh.
BUT the media - grrrrrr.

About England only paying for perscriptions BAH!
At least we don't need to have medical insurance or no treatment like USA!

I must admit my mum and husbands face when they saw the news report was like this :O and then they both started asking why my doctor did nothing with me, i was terrible from 7 week (i was on holiday so remember exactly how far) i wasn't drinking or eating continuously sick i went dizzy a few times but put it down to my low blood pressure and he did nothing. But what can i do now its too late, i even asked for vitamins because i was so worried about the baby not getting anything but he said there was nothing he could give me. Maybe if this story had come out before he could have given me some anti sickness drugs to try. Its a terrible thing to have eventually i started to wet myself every time i was sick too because i was quite far along with it still and the weight of the baby etc so i didnt leave the house without spare pants and only if i had to. People dont realise how bad it is and poor poor girl. If i had seen another doctor maybe i would have got some treatment i can't believe how serious it could have been looking back. I can see from this pregnancy and the morning sickness that it was not normal but been my first pregnancy i couldn't argue with my doctor even my husband tried to tell them how bad i was but it didnt work.

Anything that will get awareness out there mainly for the doctors is a good thing. xx

I got MS symptoms well before my BFP, that's how I knew I was pregnant. I didn't actually start throwing up until later but I have a friend who had HG twice and she started throwing up badly both times before she knew she was pregnant so it can start pretty early. For me it was nothing like a stomach bug because it followed a very different pattern. If HG starts for you at 4 weeks by 5 weeks you could be in pretty bad shape.

Clearly I am as amazing as Kate because I got amazing care when I was suffering with HG lol I've got to be honest I couldnt care less if she's a royal or not or if she's not "suffering that bad" as some have said, the poor girl must be terrified like we all were in first trimester could u imagine going through the whole "keeping it a secret" incase heaven forbid you miscarry and then having to share that with the world??? Ugh poor thing I was stressed enough because a few in work guessed lol! I'm actually really glad of the press surrounding HG at least people can see just how bad it can be! I'm surprised at some of the girls on here who have surrfered with bad HG slating it actually lol

I've had this thing she has got too I've had it 3x - this pregnancy tho - not much at all :D but my other 3 omg it was horrible!!!!! I was sick constantly till 22 ish week lost 3 stone in a few weeks and couldn't move I just laid there and when I told my doctor I wanted sickness tablets he told me to count how many time a day I was being sick! And said if I needed to talk to him properly not do to so over the phone - I counted on average I was sick 50 times a day either asleep through exhaustion or being sick my stomach lining was up all the time I was throwing up blood and bleeding down below out of pressure - when I eventually got myself down the doctors and told him he said I would be fine and to go home! Didn't even give me anything just told me to eat ice cubes and suck mints I went from a size 22 to a size 10! Before 20 weeks!
