Hello

Only 12 weeks so not sure if we are team pink or blue yet.

For a little boy we have a number of names me and OH like.

For a little girl my OH suggested a name and I fell in love with it, however the reaction I have got from a few friends and family members have made me start to doubt it.

Would this put anyone off a name or would you still go for it?

Xx

Go for it if you love it!! My family don't like all the names I have chosen but once the little baby i here they won't be able to imagine he/she with a different name!! X

I like to think that other peoples opinions don't bother me but infact they do bother me a bit. I try and think well it's my child and I'll call him what I like but when all's said and done if enough people dislike my choice then I start to question it :(

I have to say though, if your choice of name is "Stig" then I'm not so keen

My sister wasn't keen on a girls name we had and I admit it did put me off a bit.

My sister wasn't over the top about it she just said she didn't really like the name but it would grow on her? I respect her opinion a lot though so the fact she wasn't all that keen did make me feel a bit less sure about the name.

Luckily we had a boy! Everyone liked our boys names!

xxxxxxx

Ha ha no it won't be stig, that's my OH pet name for out bubs as on our six week scan the baby looked like the stig off top gear.

The name we love is tabitha.

Xx

It put me off when I told my family a few of our choices. So I didn't bother telling anyone our final choice until after she was born.
Then it's unlikely anyone will tell you they don't like the name.

I think the name Tabitha is lovely. As much as it shouldn't I would be put off a name if more people said they disliked it than said they did. Don't know whether I would change it for that reason though if I really loved it, but it would make me question if I was doing the right thing. But as I said Tabitha is lovely so I think you should stick with it if you love it xx

In theory, if say don't let other people put you off, but in reality it depends who it is, and what they say iykwim.

For example is someone close said 'oh that was my dogs name' it might make me think twice, or if they rhymed it with something I hadn't thought of.

Tabitha is cute though. Your never gonna please everyone. X

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(

I agree it depends on what they say and no matter how much i would like to say it doesnt matter it really does, i almost got put off Alice a lot but luckily i stuck with it. People are trying to do the same with Temperance so im careful who i tell now. Its hard when you get negative reactions to not take it personal i dont think people realise how long it has taken you to find that name!

Totally agree... I think it depends.

I was saying names, and my MIL said she didn't like them made me want to use it even more.xx

No, if you love it and its not moon unit or princess trixi or apple etc, then go for it...

We have decided to go for it if we have a girl we will name her tabitha, although I'm 90% sure we're having a boy.

Xx

I'm massively swayed by close family. I really really wanted Riley for this lo, I loved it! My oh said it was horrible, my sister hated it and my mum said it sounded like a "chav" name! Wtf??? But completely put me off :(

I really like the name riley its on our boys list. The only comment I've had about tabitha is that it sounds like a cat but I can tell by peoples reactions they aren't keen. It has made me rethink girls names but I just love it too much not to go for it. Xx

My Nan once said when someone suggested a the name Lorna
Lorna? Like a garden lawn?!
It was hilarious... But they didn't go with the name!

I love the name Riley its my sons name but spelt Rylee so it was a bit different, but i reli wanted Dylan but my mum told me she hated it and ita reminded her of the rabbit of magoc toindabout thats always high and it completly put me off i still love the name but now couldnt call my child it because of that reason xxx
