Would other peoples opinions put you off a name?

Yes, it bothers me what others think. It shouldn't, but does. If my Mam approves, I'm ok. It's important to me that she likes the name - even though she's the first to say it only matters what I think.

Tabitha is LOVELY.
And Redbear, congratulations on the new baby - I absolutely love her name!! Stick with it.

Thank you we did, although DH's mum is not happy aparently we forgot to tell her we where not using Ruby May and she told loads of people, including Terry's grandma Ruby who i think may be upset now... I was sure we said we changed our mind months ago. Oh well she should have kept quiet! Hehe Temperance is 100% named... and guess what... there is another Temperance on neo natal a twin girl (i dont know her sisters name) how flipping strange is that such an unusual name! x

Wow redbear, what are the odds of that!!!

We've decided not to tell people our chosen name, we talked openly with friends and family about names early on and we got some negative reactions!! I loved Corey and when I told my mum she was like no way I don't like that name, and it made me think twice about it. We don't want any opinions on the name we have chosen, we want people to associate the name with the baby!

Xxxx

I thought it was crazy the chances of it happening when i have never seen a temperance before. We havent told many people what we wanted because of that and now she is here i dont care about opinions really, its her name too late now! I keep calling her Alice though (dd name) :S x

I wouldnt be bothered what others think.

I like the name tabitha, although I knew someone with this name and she is a tool so puts me off!! X

tapatalking x

It put me off too when I told my
Parents.

Gonna keep them to outselfs a now

Are thwy saying it reminds them of a cat? It makes me think of a cat for some reason. But then ive known a few border collies with my name!

I woukdnt worry about other peoples opinions, I think its a really cute name for a little girl. Tabi for short is nice too :)

I like Bronson for a boy but a lot of people say it makes them think of the psychotic prisoner Charles Bronson lol I couldn't care less! Afyer a while the connection wont even cross their minds x

Yeah I've had it sounds like a cat I can't help feeling put off, plenty of time to think about it xx

I didnt think of a cat when i read it, ive never known a cat called Tabitha, i think when the baby has its name then its much easier to hear doubts because its too late, and you get a lot more positive feedback because people know that its too late they cant change your mind. Someone said she has a very posh name today i never thought of Temperance as posh! Were not! x

My friends just called her LO Tabitha and it really suits her :)

My other friend did have this happen to her though. Her and her OH decided to call their little boy Samson but by the time she came to give birth everyone had told them how much they didn't like it (apart from me) and they changed it to Mason. Strange thing is though, I really can't imagine him being called anything other than that.

I think what I'm most worried about is choosing a name and then it not feeling right when baby is here - if that makes any sense?

I think it would put me off , also I think it's really hard to get an honest opinion from ppl close to me. I'd rather know If the majority of ppl disliked what I picked .

Please don't let other people put you off a name you love! It's so hard not to be offended when you love it so much but also remember if you're disappointed they don't like it it must mean you really do! Whats more important? :)

My FIL phoned both my BIL and SIL more than once begging them to talk me and my OH out if using the name we picked. Luckily both replied every time with "But we like it too"

We haven't changed our minds. Our wee boy is getting called Hamish. :) If anyone says anything about "oh they'll get bullied!" then remember kids will get bullied for their name, last name, hair colour, clothes, home life, intelligence or anything else the other kids can find! My name is Ruth and I got bullied (Ruth the poof. Hilarious!) but I have a good enough head on my shoulders and don't have any stigma about my name. I rather like it.
Teach your kids the right attitude and they can have a successful career as a Doctor even if you name them Pixie!
