Our little one is 3 weeks old. He has always suffered after a feed and strains and grunts in pain. His little face goes bright red. I have tried infacol but no joy. Now trying dentinox, only started today. Also using Dr Browns bottles. Just wondered if anyone has any other advice. Waiting for him to be 4 weeks so we can try gripe water.

Go to the GP and get some Colief, it helped with my son (but didn't eradicate the problem, but eased it). We also used C&G Comfort formula.

Good luck and hope you are coping okay. I found it really tough, but it does all end by around 12 weeks :-)

Thanks rooster. Got the health visitor coming on Monday and was going to speak to her about comfort milk. Did you have to change the size of your teats? He is only using level 1 teats at the minute. How soon did you notice a difference? X

Quite quickly actually. Infacol did nothing for him, poor mite. Yeah, the comfort milk struggled with the size 1 teats.

I would use gripe water now chuck, we did half the dose under 4 weeks as he had awful colic due to, I believe, the foremilk-hindmilk imbalance in my breasts and the Aptamil formula. I think there was just too much lactose for him to handle. Also, def try the next size up teats regardless of the type of milk - if the teat is too slow for him, he will take in more air which will make his wee tum worse.

Glad you posted this. My LO is combi fed with bottles and is really uncomfortable. I too have the HV in Monday and didn't know about moving up a teat size x

We're using the dentinox one and I've noticed a big difference. I add it to her bottles and you literally see all the air bubbles in the milk pop!

Gripe water was the thing that kicked the colic for Alex. We started giving it him from 3ish weeks but halved the dose til he turned 4 weeks. We actually started giving it him by dipping his dummy in it, he really liked that. Infacol just made Alex sick after every feed. The other thing that really helped was changing the teat size to the medium flow. It means he takes the milk quick enough that he belches really quickly!!!

Got to recommend gripe water. My youngest has been fussy with his feeds lately and not getting any wind up. He's now on day two of gripe water before every feed and is much more settled. I've found he doesn't need the full amount, 2.5 ml is enough.
