Hey Girls,

Just wondering which part was worse, The actual contractions or the pushing LO out part?

Trying to get my self as prepared as possible for the pain should I go ahead with my plans for a water birth

But iv been gettin a little scared the last few weeks that im not gonna cope with the pain and opt for the drugs

For me with my first it was the pushing part x

I had an epidural but I would still say that the pushing part (actually birthing the head and body)was the worst- I had a small tear and an episiotomy tho, so that contributed! Even tho it was the most painful bit it was over so quick compared to the rest of it!....Try not to worry hunny, whatever happens u will get thru it and don't feel bad if u need pain relief, u take whatever u need to help! :)

Oh so even with a Epi you still feel the pain of pushing the head out ? thought it would numb down there too, yikes , Iv been thinkin that will be the worst part of a natural birth but if im still gonna feel it with and Epi then im prob better off without once i can handle the contractions

I found the pushing the worst! Contractions I could deal with, but I hated pushing x

Pushing part, mainly the head as once thats out the rest follows pretty easily xx

Contractions were the worst pain for me! Once my epidural kicked in I couldn't feel a thing! I had a forceps delivery which was the worst part of the whole thing because I could feel the woman scraping my bones!! It didn't hurt but it was pretty traumatic and a feeling i'll never ever forget! x

My contractions were the worst part but when I laboured in the bath they were a lot better! The pushing was fine for me and more of a Relief then anything tbh.

Although I was told all through my labour that I wasn't in labour and what I was feeling wasn't contractions and that I didn't need to push! Pft! Shows what they knew as 2 mins later his head was out!

Tbh once you gave ur baby in your arms you won't even care about all the pain and it will be a distant memory

I screamed for an epi with my contractions but as I wasn't 'contracting' they wouldn't let me and ended up having no pain relief! X

Thanks for the honest replies girls :) see everyone keeps telling me once its done you forget the pain but the way I see it is I still have to go trough it before I get to that part if that makes sense LOL

great to hear that water helped setdse :)

My contractions were worse, mainly cos Alice turned during labour and was born back to back! I can't really remember what the pushing felt like. But the worst pain ive ever felt was the stitches!!

The last couple of contractions before you push, it's that transition where you think you can't do it. I only pushed for a couple of mins with both my two, I don't remember either hurting much as I was pushing so hard and concentrating on breathing, more a physical exhaustion than pain I thought.

The worst part for me was realising i had to push but the MW had to check first, the pressure was horrible.
I felt the pushing as a relief as the pressure became less with each push :)

My LO was back to back so the pain was in my back which i found manageable with a TENS machine :)

With the first one contractions felt worse, by the time it get to pushing I was so exhausted I think I was numb  With the second one I felt more confident and prepared so I could get through the contractions ok-ish but getting the LO out was a killer  I don't mean to scare you, the second they tell you they can see the LO's head or that you are nearly there, adrenaline will kick in, it will happen superfast and you will forget about the pain the first nanosecond the baby is out, I promise :) Good luck! x

I see it as the final to everything and the start of something magical... parenthood! Everyone has told me how the pain was all forgotten about once they had their baby in their arms. And thats whats getting me through this. A few hours of pain for one of natures greatest moments! :) Stay positive hun. I plan on just having G&A. Epidural makes me sick just at the thought of it. I'm not trying to be a martyr (sorry spelling) but I don't want to much in the way of drugs. Although I'm keeping an open mind as it might all change when labour kicks in lol!x

All of it was horrible for me! i was tense which made the whole experiance worse, had a epi which helped but wore off after a while and needed g&a again, the i had forceps so couldn't feel what baby coming out felt like x

the last half an hour, before that it was just medatitive and dealable with (i did 27hrs with just gas n air)

the last half an hour is sore but in a big poo sort of way, you are in control and you just push that baby out!

its quite amazing, i felt my sons little nose come out of me and it was magical... scary and quite painful but unbelievable and not something would swap for the world.

well prob the contractions were the worst part for me, but even they weren't agony!, i never felt the 'ring of fire', that some people say you feel when the head is coming out! which was a bonus :)

Yup I feel the same. The memory of pushing my daughter out is really magical for me.

As for the pain, I split a bit of skin when her head was coming out and that was probably the most painful bit. The contractions weren't half as bad as I had expected :). PS - had paracetamol for 16 hours of contractions with gas and air for the last hour and a half.

I would definately say the contractions...by the time I was pushing I was attached to the gas and air and chatting crap so dont really remember the pushing part hahah xx

The contractions were the worst for me, i had diamorphine after 36hours and then an epi. I swore not to have drugs but it took so long to dialate and my contractions never regulated until they put me on a drip 3hours after an epi i was ready to push and 3 contractions later he was out... no pain as i was number but could feel all the pressure

Not to scare u but i didn't forget the pain when he was on me and for a while after when i breastfed the uterus contracting reminded me of the first stage of labour to me which freaked me out until i got used to it.
