Hi, I think it's time for me to get some maternity clothes, nearly 16 weeks and definitely getting time for stretchy clothes lol.

I know places like new look, and Dorothy Perkins etc have a small selection, but is there Any maternity shops? I don't like thought of getting off net as I've no idea what size I'd need now and can't be bothered with hassle of having to send things back.

Any advice would be great thanks

I'm not in the UK anymore but as far as I remember, places like Next, M &S, Topshop, GAP all do maternity wear. You coils probably try places like Mothercare, Mamas & Papas as well. Am sure , house of Fraser or John Lewis would have a maternity section too.

That's all I can think of at the moment:)

Peacocks, asda, and matalan all have maternity clothes now x

Quite a few places as the girls have put above! I know u don't like online shopping but I swear by asos and topshop online. Lots of choice and not frumpy. And I buy in the size I usually wear but just the maternity section! They have really good sales too x

Your size will go on pre pregnancy size :)

I've bought from next, new look,DP, and matalan. I don't know of any high street shop that only sells mat clothes x x

I have bought a lot and been given a lot from red herring. They are good quality and not that expensive. Other than that I bought a lot in new look and next!!

I went out on Saturday on a mission to get mat clothes, and I was really let down, 1) due to price, the shops seem to think that you have to have it so you will pay for it. There was a top in H&M Mat for £25.00, then the same top not maternity, and it was £7.99. 2) Why do they want to make us look old?? So I went normal clothes, and got them in bigger sizes.

Related to this what are people doing about winter coats? My current coat is only just fitting over my bump, so it's not going to last much longer, but I am reluctant to spend loads on a proper maternity coat when I'm only going to be wearing it for a few months. Most of the ones I have seen are £60+, and the nice ones are about £100. I'd normally only spend that on something that was going to last for a few years, like a quality coat should.

Do you think we can get away with just buying a normal coat in a bigger size? I've seen quite a nice one in Asda for £25, but I don't know how much room I need to leave to allow for bump growth.

I'm just gonna stop fastening my coat and wear a scarf and other warm layers to try to keep warm :eh: x

I bought my maternity coat months ago, there was one on ASOS which was reduced from £90 to £20 and I didn't think twice about it. But, if I hadn't done that, I'd probably look out for a good deal on eBay.

I went to H&M and tried a bunch of clothes on, bought some, and then went home and continued shopping online, since then I knew what styles I liked what was flattering and what was not etc. I think it's usually best to buy from non maternity stores as it seems the price is usually higher once you go to a specialized store..

I'm planning on making my own coat.. Bought a pattern for one last week, so hopefully I'll get around to it in not too long. In this country I only have one jacket, and that's a short leather jacket (lined and warm for winter). Haven't tried it on yet, but guessing it's already too small.. :p

I was also thinking of maybe buying some nice thick cardigans, wool sweaters or similar. Mentioned the coat thing to someone and they said I probably wouldn't need one as you get so warm at that stage of pregnancy anyway :p Guess it depends on where you live though!

I cant remember who it was - but one of the ladies on here bought a cape style coat - which seems like it would have more room - i think im gonna try that. they are supposed to be very 'in' this year so hopefully should be lots of choice.

Failing that I think ebay might be my next stop.

GAP Kids has a maternity section (I shop there when there's a sale on) as for trousers, for me nothing beats M&S. They have a brilliant stretchy trousers section that I've been using and I'm still browsing through it at 36 weeks ;)

I bought a maternity coat from next online as I tried on a big size normally and it didn't do up.

I really like next online, def my fave so far.

xx

Peacocks do some cute maternity jeans with a bump cover thingy attached to them....will deffo have a look soon xxxxxxxx

Thank you all for the replies and help  I'm going to Glasgow tomorrow so will have a wee look there!

well good luck! i went into every single shop in town on my lunch break and ended up wanting to cry as i couldn't find any black tops with decent length to cover my bump for work, i looked at maternity and normal fat clothes. Nothing. it is so depressing.

I have bought some Maternity work pants from New Look for a really good price ! £11.99! They are fab too and really really comfortable. You can also pick the leg length!

I have to say aswell... They have some really cute maternity tops on offer with writing on the tops which relate to the baby. They are so cute! I bought one that said "Hands of my bump" and another which was a picture of a cake and a caption of "Bun in my oven".

I also found that H&M have a really nice selection and Top Shops are lovely but a little bit expensive.
