when to apply?

when do we have to apply for the £500 pregnacy grant is it 11 weeks before baby is due? im not sure when i should be claiming for it, ive got the form ready and im nearly 28 weeks so if someone could help me that would be great xx

Yeah you apply at 29 weeks and mine came through really quick x

another week before i can claim yet then lol. Thanks for that hun i thought i would have to wait ages but nope lol. well if you got yours that quick mine wont be so bad hopefully lol. i recieved my 190 grant within a week which i thought that was fast to. wow your 35 weeks and doing great xx

Meeah - your a college student arent you? Cause Im a student and going on income support when I finish this year at uni and applying for the £500 then....how did you get yours before the end of college? or have you finished?

you dont have to apply for it so quicky though. I think you can appply up to 8 weeks after the baby is born. I wont be eligeable until we have a child so have to wait to apply! Bloomin ridiculous!

Why wont you be eligable till after bub is born Tiny? Just wondering wether I might be as I will be claiming Maternity allowance as I'm self employed. I have looked into it and dont think I am

our income is over the threshold for support as a couple, but as a family with a child we're below the threshold. cant do anything sensible like planin advance or organise, nooooo we have to wait until we have a newborn to deal with THEN do these lovely application forms!!

Jeezzz. My uni were ace about it all, saying I could get extensions if I wanted and saying if I couldn't come in its fine, and reduced my days for next year. I get its a uni so bit different from college but still....can't believe they sent you a letter...Id would of gone round and given them all a swift kick to the shins!

It was a pisstake to be fair. They knew I was 4 years older then all the others and that I was still doing well in my subjects but I was setting a bad example apparently. Ah well x

well quite, how dare you do something so awful as having a baby. Im sure NOONE they know would ever do that (?!) wonder if you could sue the college for gender discrimination. Do you think a man would be kicked out if his girlfriend got pregnant?

Sex discrimination in education is unlawful under section 22 of the sex Discrimination Act, as amended in 2005:

(1) It is unlawful in relation to an educational establishment ... to discriminate against a woman—
(a) in the terms on which it offers to admit her to the establishment as a pupil, or
(b) by refusing or deliberately omitting to accept an application for her admission to the establishment as a pupil, or
(c) where she is a pupil of the establishment—
(i) in the way it affords her access to any benefits, facilities or services, or by refusing or deliberately omitting to afford her access to them, or
(ii) by excluding her from the establishment or subjecting her to any other detriment....

excluded for being a woman?! i bet you could get thousands out of them just with a threatening letter! Id understand if you were like 12 or something, but even then, denying you education is pretty harsh!
