When do u start counting week 1 ?

When do you start counting how far gone you are ?

from when you find out your pregnant if its early on or when you last had sex or what ? I dont understand ??

Please Help

Imstill trying to conceive but im just waiting patiently to see if my period comes or not and its due early next month !!

Day 1 is the first day of your last period....... confusing but that is how they date you... Good luck TTC

Hi There

On a normal 28 day cycle; if you were to fall pregnant you would be classed as 4 weeks when your period is due. Conception normally takes place around 14-18 days after your first period, so you are automatically 2 weeks pregnant when you conceive!

Obviously not everyone has a regular 28 day cycle but the norm is to ovulate around 14 days before your period.

Would it be easier if i told you what im doing ?

Well, my last period started 5/07/08 and ended 10/07/08

I only started trying to conceive on the 14th so dont get how the calculations can say to start when my last period was

My period is due soon !!! Dont no how long my cycle is so am just gonna say its the normal 28 days so can anyone help me now after i have just explained myself - is this any clearer ?

why would i be 4 weeks !!! My period is nearly due but i didnt have sex until AFTER my last period

I know its weird but they count the weeks from your last period - even though you probably weren't pregnant for some of them!!

So if your period is due now (and you're normally every 28 - 30 days) if it doesn't arrive and you take a test then you're about 4 weeks pregnant - no matter when you last had sex!


Conception is when the sperm and egg come together to make a baby and Ovulate is the bit about half way between your last period and next one where an egg is released ready to be fertilised.

My last period was on Friday May 30th which is exactly 9 weeks ago today... does that make me 9 weeks pregnant???
Or am I more or less? Im sayimg im 9 weeks pregnant, am I wrong??

That's right.

You count from your last period until you get your dating scan. Because women's cycles vary in length you could be a bit more or a bit less, which they will be able to tell from the dating scan.

But until then, you count the number of weeks that have passed since the first day of your last period.

Until you have your first scan at around 12 weeks and then they throw your dates out of the window......and come up with their own dates

I know its confusing, because in reality you're not 4 weeks pregnant because 4 weeks haven't passed since the sperm and the egg met!

The reason that the docs & everyone count from the day of your last period is because its easy to know when that happened! In most cases its impossible to know when the sperm and egg met so they count from your period which for most people adds about 2 weeks to how far along you really are!

So in real terms, if your period doesn't happen and you have a positive pregnancy test you are only about 2 weeks pregnant but the doctors and midwives will count it as 4!

so when i have my scan theyll take about 2 weeks off wont they ? so if im like 4 weeks now - il be like 2 weeks lol

No, I know its strange but even after the scan they count the extra 2 weeks. Its best not to think about it too much really - just go with it and forget about the fact you weren't really pregnant for the first 2 weeks!

I took my test yesturday anyway and im not pregnant dont no why either - not fair
